Been working with both for a good while now but want to concentrate on one over the other. Which do people think is more worth the time? whats more widely used, easier to deploy etc etc.

Well it depends on what area you're in I suppose... As a mainly C++ desktop, client/server guy I find myself frequently using Python for "glue", tests, infrastructure, log analysis etc. It's fantastic for that. Have never had to use PHP in a professional capacity whereas it'd be totally different if you're a web dev.

    It all depends.

It depends on what area of development you are in, what you want to do in your career, what your preferences are and what problems you are trying to solve.

You could easily add Ruby, Bash, Java, JavaScript, C++ etc. to the list.

If you want to know which is more 'popular' then have a look at githut
