Im hoping a plumber on here can help me!I have a submersible deep well(pump is submersed)
Setup is submersible pump, pressure switch + vessell + inline psi guage over ground.
Every time the pressure switchs off (40 psi)i get a loud SINGLE water hammer noise at the well outside and at the tank in attic too.
Recently i changed the pressure vessel as the bladder was bust. 20 psi set and also installed a new 20/40 pressure switch,
Hammer noise only seemed to start since i changed parts, tryed a few different settings , am thinking of trying to up the pressure in vessel and see if that works???
Any advice greatly appreciated , tia

Are you sure it's not just the noise of the vessel shutting off when the pump switches off. It's like a loud click.
The Vessel Bladder should be pumped up to about 28 lbs pressure with all water switched off. Then the pump switch should be set to cut out at 40 psi and cut back in around 28/30 psi.

What is the air pressure in expansion vessel? (with pump off and mains tap open) What is the cut-in pressure of the pump?

    20 psi in vessel(approx) and 20/40 in/ out,

    20 psi in vessel(approx) and 20/40 in/ out,

Is this measured pressure as I described above, or assumed pressure?

You need to have vessel 2psi below pump cut in pressure.

Em its measured but ive been playing wuth pressure in vessel so maybe il get a guage and measure it accuratly? Would this b causing the loud noise wen pressure switch , swithes off?

So if pump cut in is 20 psi i need vessel pressure to b 18psi?

    Yes

Probably not, but having that part setup properly will at least be better for your pump and rule out that as a possible cause.

Thanks, if this was setup wrongly would this mean the pump could possibly be cutting in and out a lot? Thanks again

Yes. That could be one of the reasons.

Not sure if related but I been trough same troubles as you.
End up replacing the tank pump with a dearer one that has soft start - soft stop by variable frequency speed controller.
Been standalone, allowed installing out of the tank, creating less noise in the pipes and in the house, when running.

Another possibly cheaper option worth a go would be to install a second small expansion vessel in the house if the pump is a long way from it.
