Weekend in Kilbeggan?

Would Kilbeggan be good for a weekend trip? It'd be for a stag - not a laddish one, but one that would centre around finding a decent spot or two to drink and eat.

The distillery is what's drawing my eye and the racing could be of interest too, but want to know if there's much else to do in the two beyond that.

    Thanks for any pointers.

Not Really, would be better to stay in Tullamore and head to distillery for there, only 10 minutes away. Or Athlone which is only 25/30 minutes away

10 Minutes in Kilbeggan would be enough.

Have a meal and a drink at the greyhound track in mullingar.

Never heard of anyone going to Kilbeggan on a stag, it's a small quiet country town.

Tullamore is only a short hop away and would be a better bet in terms of decent pubs and grub.

Am trying to find good locations with a distillery/brewery that does a tour - outside of Dublin and Cork that's actually harder to find than I'd expected!

Have been to Tullamore, wasn't a bad spot from what I can remember - would only need a decent boozer or two where you could set up camp for the day/night!

Is the distillery in Tullamore open to the public?

    This too shall pass.

There's a good tour & restaurant in the distillery in Tullamore.

    Kilbeggan is 15 mins away.

There are no tours of Cooley, it's just a functional factory.

Not yet, there are plans to open it up to visitors but the
Tullamore Dew Visitors Centre is open to tours, nice spot for a relaxing meal and a few drinks.

Go to Athlone, nice pubs, loads of fantastic restaurants, and just get everyone to throw a few pound in for a bus over and back to the distillery in kilbeggan.
