    Hey,

Im going to be selling my Golf. Its a 2005 Black 1.6 FSI with 107,000 miles.

I think the first thing I can do is post better pics than most of the stuff on there, my friend is a photographer so he will do it. Could someone post an example of what they consider a good ad to be and what I should and shouldn't mention please?

For example its a 2005 in good condition but has a few scratches, should i
    mention and photo these?

I have decent service history from when I have owned it and have literally every receipt in the book, should I take a photo of this?

Also thought on how much its worth. I would like 4k, do you guys think thats too high?
It was serviced by George Dalton maybe 4,000 miles ago and has NCT till late this year and 4 decent tires,2 of them continentals which I replaced.

In the last year its had a Bosal catalytic converter put in, wishbone bushings, brake caliper replaced and all the water pump pulleys replaced, should i mention this..

It has a pioneer touch screen headunit, with mobile phone microphone etc. its worth about 300, I dont know whether to include it or not. I would be more than happy to keep it and put in my next car but the pics will have it in. Im wondering how I should word that if they want the headunit its 200 extra, or should I say not included at all.

    Car is mint otherwise.

    tks
    Dave

Forget the mucking about with different prices with and without the headunit. If you want extra, add the extra to the asking price and be done with it or sell it separately and put the original one back in the car.

Put up an ad and people will give you feedback then.

Thanks, I reckon il just pull it out. It probably gives the impression of a boy racers car with it in and I would prefer to keep it.(I dont think I would get much more for it in the car)

    Ok critique away

Im aware the adverts car valuator has it about 450 less but the fact I have spent over a grand on it in the last year I have to try for at least 4 before I lower it for my own sanity. Ive only just put it up so I will know myself if its way overpriced if I get no calls.
My friend wasnt available so I just took the pics myself with a decentish camera.

    Gave George massive props :)
Anyone have anything I should edit or change, maybe some different pics I should have?

    tks
    Dave

Serviced by #1 vw specialist in Ireland 5000 miles ago isn't worth mentioning. If that was the guts of a year ago its due a service soon anyway. 7 services since new, you like to get value from your oil changes :)

Its not due a service for another 5,000 miles according to the service notes from mechanic and that service was only about 6 months ago

Ive only owned it for a year and a half and its been serviced twice in that period. Once by me but I am not mentioning that. Previous owner could have done better but could have done worse, I have borne the brunt of the bills anyway ha

From my own reading here ,
Full service hostory is enough. i wouldnt worry about the George Dalton reference. outside of here a lot of people dont know the man so it looks odd. maybe just 'serviced by VW specialist'.
Id leave out the service intervals. It just highlights the fact the car was underserviced by the previous owner, Most people say once a year min and or 10k miles
It is overpriced .You dont get service money back on a car when selling.
The short tax effectively adds 500 euro to the price of it as well.
No mention of the timing belt so i assume its probably coming due as well so again making it more expensive .
I look at it and say there is another grand to go into it soon after buying it

I would leave out the 1000 euro spent in the last year. My reasoning there is all you have mentioned are serviceable items.
I look at the replacement Cat and say to myself why did it go at 100k, whats wrong with the car for it to go. just a reason i wouldnt mention it
Id hold back til i got phone calls about the car.

I assume it doesnt have alloys as i can see cable ties on the wheel trims. Just an observation but its odd that a higher spec english car doesnt have alloys and no front fog lights .
Another odd thing is 2 owners . The car is english so one. But its on waterford plates(two) being sold in dublin (and serviced in portlaois )

regarding the head unit , if you want to keep it , take it out and knock the money off the price, every few quid cheaper will make the car more desireable to buyers. It will bring the price of the car more in line with other cars.
Also there are no pics of the boot /spare wheel/ toolkit. or even under the bonnet
A piece of advice as well is watch out for time wasters. I can see you are 'donedealing since 2016' so it says to me that it might be the first car you are selling privately so might be an easy target.

Not looking to knock a man but thats how i read ads.

Thanks man, lots of useful advise I'm going to edit now. Car has a timing chain so no belt.

Previous owner was an Irish girl from Waterford who was living in Scotland but took the car back with her. I have no idea re alloys.

Thanks again though, Ive edit it now.

I think you are right about the head unit, im going to remove it.I might stick in the under bonnet pic but my thinking was what can someone tell from a pic of a freshly washed engine cover. You are right its the first time I have ever used done deal.

I'd remove the owned by a VAG enthusiast tbh as it's an A to B motor with a for sale speel that asks as many questions as it answers.

The price is a shade high. Historically they are trading at €3590 with an average mileage of 94,000 miles (151k km) That's based on 11 cars in the last 60 days.

As someone who is in the market for the similar age Focus, I think you will be left waiting due to price. It looks very well and has obviously been maintained well, but the lack of factory alloy wheels is a real turnoff. Similarly the missing armrest and steering wheels stereo controls would be something I'd personally spot as lacking.
