Any opinions on choosing Isover attic roll or Knauf Earthwool loft roll. The Knauf stuff is proving to be a good bit dearer. Have heard the Knauf earthwool is easier to install and softer?? Is there any other benefits?? It's to be laid over ceiling between joists in a bungalow
    Thanks

B & Q had a good offer on the Knauf ekoroll (both 100mm and 200mm thick) over the xmas. Think the 200mm is still on special price. Probably still cheaper than a builders providers.
One gripe I have about the 200mm thick stuff is that I wish they didnt precut the centre 400mm wide section into 2x 200mm wide rolls, as it tends to fall apart when its that narrow.

Check which one has a better U-value.

Yeah this really gets my goat!!!
Would nearly prefer if there were no pre cuts at all

That's handy to know because I have 600mm truss centers and want to upgrade my insulation. 3x200mm sounds good rather than me cutting one in half

Chadwichs had 10 rolls of 150mm fiberglass for €169 including VAT this winter. I imagine Chadwichs will deliver

100mm and 200mm are awkward size. You ideally want 150mm down between the joists and another 150mm on top going the opposite direction. This will prevent thermal bridging.

Earthwool is slightly nicer than fiberglass, as it is not as harsh on the skin. But you should be using a disposable face mask and ideally overalls (including gloves) when installing any insulation. So it really shouldnt make a huge difference what you use.

    Any builders merchant will deliver.

I worked for a year installing insulation in attics.
I would refuse to use anything other than knauf. isover and rockwool are horrible stuff.
the knauf is washed so there is less small glass particles in it.
iv asthma and I can work with knauf with a mask. I cant even go near the isoover.
there was an article in a magazine (maybe construct Ireland) where they were showing the medial problems associated with un washed fiberglass insulation.

if your looking for the best thermally I would go for blown in . it leaves less gaps and is easier to fix later if you need to go back in looking for wires. ( I spent days fixing insulation rolls after electricians)

    assume that you mean thermally.
    if so just increase thickness

Which means more money. I've also read its very toxic to human health

I haven't heard of any concerns . I will look into it

I never noticed any price difference. adding a few more inch's doesn't really add to the labour that much.
we priced a few jobs on rolls but decided to pump instead. there wasn't much in the difference.
