Happy New Year.... And now we're going to raise our prices

So the already over-priced Arts Cafe has decided to raise their prices for the New year, most by at least 10% as far as I can see. A (barely drinkable) filter coffee has gone up from 1.80 to 2 euro. The scone and tea/coffee morning offer has increased from 3 euro to 3.30 and the lunch offer has gone up to 6.15.

It was expensive enough as it was, and now it's got even more expensive without an increase in quality or service! I got caught out the first day back, but I've not set foot in the place since then. I've not been in their other outlets since the Christmas break, but as it's a chain I assume Reader's has also gone up in price.

Where is the best/cheapest place to get hot water on campus these days? Does the SU shop under the library still charge 1 euro?

Why not bring your own lunch?

Same thing with Pulse in Health Sciences.

I'm not sure how much they charge for hot water, but I think it's around 1.30 for a coffee refill in your own flask/cup.

I usually would, but there's always the odd day that I'd like to buy lunch/coffee, or meet someone for a bite to eat or coffee where we can sit down at a table.

Same with Starbucks Quinn. Must be a campus wide thing

Arts Cafe have only ever charged me 50 cent for hot water. One of the floor staff said it'd be free if I ever remembered to bring in my own container. Granted, I used only cups, but might be useful.

Its campus wide by Kylemore. They had surveys out before christmas. Judging by their response it looks like they took the surveys and threw them in the bin.

Prices have gone up, several outlets the portion sizes have decreased, quality has not changed (ranging from sub standard to acceptable).

As far as I know the tender is up in September but undoubtedly it will be the same shambles as before. I would love fot a new vendor or for Kylemore to just pull out and get a few seperate vendors in as it was years ago

Best bet is bring in a kettle and plug it in. I know both Engineering and a few places in Science have kettle in the studying rooms.

Feel sorry for the staff in the Conway as it would appear that business has halved if not quartered since this came in. I realise alot of students are not back yet but its noticeable how little trade they are doing.

Same in the Arts Café. I know a lot of people who have stopped going (myself included, even though I wouldn't have been a 'real' 'regular') due to the increase in prices. Though, in fairness, I don't know what management expected with such a steep increase.

I noticed the queue for coffee in the pi cafe was all the way out the door yesterday, the longest ive seen it in years, so I dont know if the prices increased there, or if it deterred anyone. Hot water with a cup was only 70c there before christmas as far as I can remember, I just bring in my own teabags.

Small Americano in Costa in Law building - €2.00 (unchanged)
Small Americano in Costa in Pulse - €2.55 (up 30 cent from €2.20 after new year)

Good thing I pass the law building from my bus on my way across campus!
