Life insurance for 18yr old

Myself and my husband currently have life insurance with New Ireland. It covers children free but my son has recently turned 18 so I'm presuming he's no longer covered on our policy.

Do I contact New Ireland and tell them he's now 18 and take out an adult policy for him or do I wait for them to tell me he's no longer covered and take it from there ?

    Thanks in Advance.

Why would an 18 year old (presumably single and with no economic dependants) need life assurance? I'm not aware that New Ireland do health insurance so I'm not sure what type of 'cover' you're talking about in respect of your other children

I suppose he doesn't "need" life assurance but he'd been covered under our policy and now he's not so I just presumed I'd continue it on.

I may be wrong but from what i remember you could not be the proposer for your children in the past, has this changed?

You could buy a life policy for a parent but not a child.

As he is now an adult, you may find that you are not allowed to take out a policy on his life unless you can show that you have an 'insurable interest' which would usually require you to show that you are economically dependent on him.
