Have a crv...someone removed the driveshaft that engages the rear wheels if fronts start to spin...basically making crv now front wheel drive, eliminating the part time 4wd system...forums say its safe enough, u just loose the 4wd benefit...but will nct fail it?? Do i need to blank off the ends from where they removed it, or is it a straight fail due to being removed, or will they care?? Anyone with accurate knowledge would be appreciated. Thanks

Hmm I had to do the same once not so long after the NCT boyos decided it would be fun to see how much abuse a crv would take on the rollers.

It was scrap shortly after so never had to chance to see if they would fail it or not. Or even take it outside with a decelerometer despite it now being clearly 2wd.

Didn't have to blank anything to drive it 2wd. Very simple to refit to a gen 1, I expect a gen 2 is similar.

All I can say is... If you do refit the prop shaft... do not expect NCT people to even think that this SUV/jeep/4x4 lookalike vehicle may actually have some form of 4wd unsuitable for roller testing. Put a note on the steering wheel!!!!

It will be fine. This 'repair' is the standard job for the older Freelanders when the shaft bearing collapsed. Seen plenty if them go on to pass NCT & DOE.

Fathers freelancer passed twice with it removed. No issues raised. Most recently about three years back
