    Hi all,
I'm driving a mk5 vw golf tdi and looking for opinions. At the moment when idling there are slight knocking noises and when taking off in first gear the car shudders. Car pulls fine through all other gears. Doesn't look like any of the engine mounts are damaged although there is a bit of movement in the engine. Any other suggestions?

    "Dodgy flywheel"
Would second that - intermittent rattle when idling is often due to a DMF on its way out . You may also begin to notice some vibration - which will get more noticeable over time .
Have a good look at the mounting low down at the back of the engine/gearbox.
This can cause vibration when moving off - you need to get under the car to check it properly
