    Hello,
I am currently in TY and have picked the following leaving cert subjects:
    Chemistry in school
    DCG in school
    Accounting in school
    Geography outside of school
    Biology myself after school

As well as the following core subjects:English,Irish,French and Maths.
In total I have nine HIGHER LEVEL subjects,is this manageable??The reason why I am doing so many is because I want to do medicine which requires 600+points and I am not great at languages.

Please share what ever advice you have with me,thanks

Speaking as a person who does a subject outside of school (Biology) it can be tough and I'm only in 5th year! Trying to balance your school subjects against the subject you're doing outside of school is hard but if you really want to do the subject it makes it a lot easier if you know what I mean.
As far as I know for geography you have a project element worth 20% and this has to be signed off by a teacher, do you have a teacher to sign off on the project?

Last point is that you only count your best 6 subjects for points so it doesn't matter if you do 6 or 26 subjects the most points you can possibly get is 625, so why bother doing so many subjects?

Thanks for your advice,If I decide to do biology myself I will probably start studying it now in TY and try get a few chapters done over the summer aswell.

I would be doing geography after school with a teacher and a few other students so he would sign off on it as he teaches in my school aswell.

I understand that the top 6 subjects are counted but languages are my weak side so I feel I have to do a extra subject that I would score higher in.
    ThanksðŸ‘

I do 9 subjects and two of them are ordinary level and it can be quite stressful at times. Especially when it comes to pres and exam time. Honestly don't do it if you have the choice. It's really of no benefit at all.

Even still, 7 HL subjects is a lot to cope with and you can't just ignore those two pass subjects either because you need to pass them for college.

Honestly stick with 8 subjects it's much better!

You're asking for a mental breakdown, man. 8 is plenty. Ever head of the pareto principle (80/20 principle). Basically 80 percent of the outcomes come from 20 percent of the inputs. You'd be much better advised doing 8, which is enough for any CAO course, any UCAS course and any American course. 9 is definitely overkill.

I'd recommend only doing 6 HL max. If you have to do French and Irish then I'd say the best thing to do is to drop both of these to ordinary and don't do one other subjects you've listed. It'd just be extra stress for no reason.

only 6 HL is really cutting it fine. I would always say do 7 HL to give you some leeway, especially as OP is aiming for high points to get medicine

Personally I'd advise having 6 HL subjects (whichever you're best at) and do pass in your others. I'd think 8 is loads, you're much better off dedicating all your time to 6 and doing fantastically well in them rather than doing fairly well in 7/8. You can only count 6 so make those 6 count

I did 8 subjects with one outside of school and dropped to ordinary French and Irish as I was bad at languages.Dropping to ordinary Irish and French reduces the amount of work required by a lot. I found geography, DCG and applied maths to be easy enough subjects too.

I wouldnt do less than 7 honours or more than 8. It depends on what you are strong at but I'd say 9 is manageable with 2 ordinary levels. You could always stick to 8 and only do ordinary level in one subject and put more effort into one of your languages. It depends on if you think you could get an A in 7 of the 8 or if one of the required subjects would bring you down.
