Weanlings Coughing

Hi all. I have a few cattle that are coughing. Injected for fluke and worms with invermectin a few weeks ago made no odds.. I didn't buy ivomec, as I normally do - bought a cheaper version. I blamed that. I rang vet- redosed with an oral drench. 10 days later I still hear occassional coughing, saw a snotty nose this morning. They are not a bit sick, eating well, sttetching, breathing easy. I'm not a fan of injecting, unless they are showing more signs of illness or I know what they have.

Cattle can come into the shed and out to the field whenever they want. Shed has adequate ventilation. Feeding them good hay and meal, they have access to a mineral lick. It's driving me mad, worried about pneumonia developing. I'll ring vet later, but is coughing a problem this year with others. Mild weather and all that.. What helped in your scenario.

    Thanks.

    Dave

Had the same problem a couple of years ago head wrecking. Not enough ventilation in my case. Took off side sheeting spaced it out also widened vent on top of shed. I'd say it improved things a fair bit. Vaccinate now for pneumonia find it a great job no coughing. Keep a close eye on your weanlings in my experience pneumonia not far behind bouts of coughing .

    Thanks lads.

Shed is definitely well ventilated. Its maybe too well ventilated. I side sheeted it this year, but it still gets a good breeze.

CTC powder is good stuff, worked every time I used it. However, they got it last autumn when they had a similar problem. It worked a treat. They also got vaccinated up the nose. I don't like pumping them with the antibiotics as they will build resistance and then I will have a serious problem with pneumonia. They need a shot of something to set them right though.

I'm in a similar situation to OP. In other years, I had more stock in the house and nearly always had coughing in December which we treated (successfully) with CTC.

This year, I've only noticed the coughing in the last week/10 days so I gave them a white drench yesterday as I would like to avoid having to use CTC again.

Get them cleared up with the ctc then treat them with bovipast. The intranasal one is too hit or miss for my liking.

Hi all. They had get Ctc powder for a week and an injection . Really thick stuff, couldn't get it in our out of a thick needle, nurofluctin or something like that. They got very snotty. All cleared up now coughing stopped and noses clear. All grand again.
