The spare key remote fob for my s-max has suddenly stopped working. I replaced the battery but still no go. Can these be repaired or do I have to replace the remote part of key? Any idea of cost? Thanks

    It probably just needs reprogramming.
Get in the car and close all doors.
Turn the ignition on and off till you hear a ping noise.
Press one of the buttons on the remote and the doors should lock and unlock thats it programmed.

OK will try that. Thanks. Surprised the spare key is causing problems as its rarely used. The main one has never missed a beat over 8 eight years although I've noticed its getting a bit slower lately, probably battery related.

make sure to do this with the spare at the same time too as you will need to recode all keys at the same time by pressing a button on each one after you hear the pings from the car.

Don't reprogram or replace anything yet!
Same thing happened with my CMax, all I had to do was to disconnect the battery and reconnect it. Worked straight away after that. Don't forget to have your radio code at hand.

    edit:
just read it's only one keyfob that doesn't work. It can loose the code if it hasn't been used in a while.

Is there any risk I would end up with no functioning fob if I do this? Are you saying that if I recode the spare fob the main fob will lose its code unless its also recoded at same time.

You should be able to program at least one. I have been through the process at least 248 times (that was when the unit in the car crashed and wouldn't recognise any remote fobs), so far, so good. And even if the fobs are temporarily out of action, the keys will still work.
Follow the video, you'll be OK.
