Does Clutch come under gear box warranty?

    Hi,
I bought a 07 Peugeot 407 two months back and the garage owner gave me a three month warranty on Engine and gearbox. Today morning when I started the car the gear does not come onto first or any number, I forcefully put it on three and started moving slowly but white smoke and friction smell started coming from the front left, i stopped the car and thought maybe the clutch has broken. I was unable to reach the garage today.

    1. So does the clutch come under gear box warranty?
    2. If not is the clutch only the problem I can expect?
    3. How much can it cost to replace the clutch?(Not sure though the problem is with clutch)?

    Any help greatly appreciated.

Normally clutch is not covered by a grearbox warranty, its normally classed as a wear and tear item.

Does the car go into gear when the car is turned off, thats a good indication of clutch issues.

It depends on the mechanic, Indys are usually far cheaper. I got a clutch done in a corolla for 450 euro.

Tested it just now. They work perfectly when the car is off. What could be the real problem now?

A friend of mine said it might be burnt clutch. Can we repair this without changing the clutch?

    No.

The main component of a clutch is the disc with all the friction plates. If this is worn the only solution is replace.

How much can the cost of new clutch be? Assuming the labour costs will be on the garage.

Why would the labour be on the garage?

I bought the 07 car just two months back from the garage and drove 800 KM max. It is under three months warranty.

You can burn out a perfectly good clutch in mere minutes so no, I would not expect any gearbox warranty to cover the clutch.

Clutch kit can be 200 euro or less. Local motor factors would be able to price this for you. You could look up eBay also. But the big cost is labour

Talk to the garage the might do some deal with you

It's under engine and gearbox warranty though. The clutch and the labour to fit a new clutch would be excluded from that. As others have said though they might sort something out for you but I wouldn't be expecting the labour to be free.

If it's a diesel it will probably need a flywheel too.

Yep, if your car is diesel and you are replacing the clutch then it's advised to replace the flywheel at the same time as you are already paying a fair portion of labour to remove the gearbox.

Clutch is classed as a wear and tear component similar to a battery or tyre and normally not covered by warranty.

    Mine is a petrol one.

Ah right, you probably only need a new clutch kit so.
