    Hi all,

While on the way to work this morning at the M50 RedCow/Ballymount section heading south, witnessed a coming together of two cars as one was moving from the inner to middle lanes. With the nature of traffic in the area I didnt expect them to stop there and then, but the car causing the incident kept on going.

Anyhow I caught up with the individual & got their reg, then held back to see if I could catch the other car, but it didnt come by me.

The other car was a dull Red Nissan Mirca (the "bubble" type if you know the model), if any anybody happens to come across this thread.

What to do next? Call into a Garda station with details? anything else?

    Thanks
    W

Was damage done to the Red Nissan. You seem more concerned over this than the Nissan driver.

There are people on this forum who would suggest tracking both parties down and disappearing them so they can't make an insurance claim that might raise premiums for other people.

If you caught up with the lesser contributor to the incident id say just hang tight and see what happens. Of you didn't, I don't think you can do much about it unless it was a major accident - gardai wil most likely see it as a civil matter and won't get involved. (?)

Yes there was damage done to the car, more than on the other car. I'm sure the driver was shocked by it, but that would be all. Wasnt going to stop and trot over to them as my lane had moved on by the then. We are talking about the m50 here, not a standard road.

I did what I could do at the time...

I think calling into a Garda station would be the best action to take. They could log it on the system or something. Chances are that the Micra driver will also pop into the Garda station to report the incident and hopefully they get a hold of the registration :)

Give them as much detail as you can :)

    Thanks,

Well the car I caught (who caused the incident by changing lanes), did leave the incident of an accident? And they did know about it, it wasnt a minor tip you wouldnt feel...

Yes, do call in to a Gardai station and give your witness report. The Nissan owner may call the guards in which case they will have your report.
Either way, let the guards decide how to proceed.

I wasn't aware of that ad, it's that I saw the very same thing happening the other morning.

I might not be understanding this correctly but you seem to be implying that the car in front which you got the reg of is at fault?

    I would always stop.
Especially as it could come down to a he said, he said type of claim and the injured party having to accept a 50/50 deal.
Nearly happened me last year as I held the dashcam footage back to see if the other driver would act the maggot and he did!

An independent witness is priceless in these situations. I would always have my business card handy in the car, and if your rushing or haven't got a lot of time to stay, just give your card over and tell them you saw everything and can be contacted no problem.

Can feel bad as you are essentially ratting someone up as such, but its not fair if they try wiggle out of it.
