Oh my god you have been having a bad day. There was no need for a response like that.

Ps: last year it was a collect number and t-shirt on the day

2 x 5km laps same as other Aware Christmas run which despite the atrocious weather the course suited me in a way I think.

€18 entry till end of month and tech tshirt also means I will probably be there.

On one hand, €18 is fairly cheap for a 10k...any reason why they are calling it A Lust for Life 'Park Run'? Seems like a play on the successful parkruns? Why not just call it the Lust for Life 5k/10k?

Actually considered doing the 10k but would like to know what % is going to charity here. The recent Alone/Clonliffe Christmas Cracker race gave an exact breakdown of what your entry fee involved - would be great to see races doing this in future if they are advertising as for charity races. The term 'charity partner' suggests to me that very little is going to them and the probably assume people will donate extra on the day?

Bohermeen 10k is on around the same time, its where I am heading. Can't beat club races

On their online registration form they have separate boxes for entry fees and charity donations, which suggests to me that the percentage of the entry fee going to charity is 0%. If there was a charity benefitting directly from the entry fees, they would surely be indicating that fact. It looks like a purely commercial venture which has been given a thin veneer of altruistic respectability with the involvement of the likes of Bressie. I don't know who else is involved, but he surely wouldn't be prepared to exploit his own, and others', struggles with mental illness in order to make money, would he? As to the 'Park Run' thing, it's clearly an attempt to piggy-back on the enormous success of parkrun, which is, as everyone should know, transparently free of any trace of commercial involvement. It is free, for everyone. No-one pays anything, ever. Whether or not Lust for Life is a genuine charity, or some sort of money-making operation, parkrun ireland should, politely, be requesting that LfL change the name of their event to avoid confusing the two in the public mind.

Make no mistake here, the term charity partner dosent "suggest" very little is going to Aware, absloutly nothing will be going to Aware, unless u donate to Aware yourself. This is a commercial event directly copying off the Movember run modus operandi

You pay €18 to take part in this race, which is being billed as a charity event. Yet there are separate boxes on the reg form for actually donating to AWARE. So where is the €18 going?

Why not do a parkrun, WHICH IS FREE, and donate to AWARE yourself? A lot of unanswered questions surrounding this, imo.

In fairness, they don't seem to be saying anywhere that the fee goes to the charity? if you look at this page, to me its pretty clear that you can donate separately or fundraise using the online fundraising links. Don't get me wrong, I'm not doing the race or in favour of piggybacking on parkrun but I don't think they are doing an entirely bad thing especially if people do choose to donate to the charity when registering.

No 10k in Bohermeen this year according to their facebook page. I'm looking for a 10k around that time too so I would have preferred Bohermeen. Considering going up to Downpatrick for the Jimmy's 10 at this stage.

I'd agree with this and you can be sure the parkrun folk will be all over this like a rash.

That is too close to a 'tradename' in an associated field to my mind. I too would be very much in favour of a coordinated parkrun with a donation fo €18 to the charity partner.

I don't understand why they have to go to a purpose built named event when parkrun would be surely open to hosting at one of their venues.

Sorry! Did I come across rude? Think this has gone over my head I think?

    ----

This was formally the my1000 hours race I believe?

It's really near and I love the atmosphere of these events. They give me a goal to look forward to ever so often. If we avoided every race with the same motive we'll have very little choice! 18euro for a 10k (with tech top and goodie bag) in Dublin city centre is not bad!

Yep, I give into commercialism ...

That's just not true. Not every race is a nakedly commercial venture with a thin veneer of social concern applied.

    parkrun, as mentioned, is FREE.

Club races are run for the good of the clubs themselves and directly benefit thousands of kids who get to be active and take part in organised sport with good facilities. Some of these are run for charity, and will nearly always be upfront about what portion of the race fees go to said charity.

Then there are the regular charity events. Again, these are transparently-run and it's easy to find out where the money is going.
