Recommend me a car to buy

I am moving job soon so will need a car for my commute

Details:

• I will be driving between 500km and 800km per week
• My budget is €8k-€11k
• I am thinking diesel is the way to go (but open to correction)
• Would like decent MPG
• Have seen a few automatic cars advertised - would this be a good option or does it make any difference to fuel consumption/maintenance costs etc?
• Not fussed on body types, saloon/hatchback or whatever is fine, but would prefer something that doesn't look crap (like a Panda or Multipla).
• I will be spending some time in this car so would like something comfortable
• Bluetooth and cruise control would be nice to have, but again not deal breakers

Im don't know much about cars so I would love to hear any suggestions at what cars I should be looking at, anything else I should be considering etc

Passat 09/10 mabey
I drove a 10 2.0 diesel and it was great spec, very comfy to drive and would be ideal for long trips.

They are a well known large VW dealer in the west but your probably thinking of the fields of used cars they had at one stage.

That is a lovely car alright, although as pointed out I would be crippled with the running costs! Will stick it in the pipe dream section!

I30 is a good car, but often the newer ones (as in facelift ones) have mangey spec levels as the ones people tend to import are the low vrt ones.
Premium spec is the one to get.

with that kind of mileage, the car will be worth nothing in 2-3 years, assuming you hold onto it that long, diesel is a no brainer, you are going to be spending lots of time in this car, you would be looking at 2L diesel on old system or newer one is going to be what, E270 or E280 to tax most likely?

Choosing one that is post-2006 you'll avoid the early models which had plenty of problems, but from late 2006 there were lots of upgrades to the model which greatly improved the quality and reliability.

It would be a very comfortable car to spend your days in, the feelgood factor of driving a big Merc is probably not to be sneezed at either!

Firstly I don't sell cars, I do sell parts for cars so no vested interest here.
I'd recommend for your 11k to pick up a 2009 new shape Honda Accord 2.2diesel. I picked up one for my sister a while back after going through all the Good size diesels and in my opinion the Accord is the most bullet proof at of the lot. Lots of spec as standard, best engine on the market I think. And mpg is really really good. Think the tax is 320ish
This is just my opinion . Best of luck with whatever you choose.

If you can find a Passat TDI with reasonable mileage I think it would be a good buy. Thats some serious mileage so I think you would need a larger more comfortable car
