Saorview break up

    Hi Folks,
Be good to get your advice. Moved a TV into the kitchen at the weekend from anther room where it was working perfectly. Fresh cable run of CT100 cable for Sat & DTT to the TV. Also have VGA coming down from a CCTV PVR. All cables in the same conduit. Unfortunately I'm getting break up on DTT. Signal strength is 100%. Aerial is internal and amplified by a variable gain amplifier. Tried a few things.

    1. Adjusted the amp on the aerial to ensure that it's not over amplifying.
    2. Checked the connections on either end of the cable.
    3. Moved the TV to another port on the amplifier.
    4. Moved the cable so that it is not too close to electrical cables in the attic.
    5. Rescanned the TV to ensure I'm recieving service from the correct transmitter in my case Maghera.
    6. Checked the cable for damage .. none found.
My own suspicion is 4G interference due to the aerial being internal or issue with the connector on the TV side which is the only one not an F connector. Only other thing to add is I have a 4G modem in the hall below where the cables run.

Any thoughts would be welcome because I'm racking me brain at the min

Any power block (for router/phone etc) near either of my TVs kills RTE1 Ch 55 but Ch 48 is always ok.

Have you any of those near?

No closest power block at the tv side would be one for an internet radio which is on the same table as the tv, it would be approx 1 meter away. There is a mains cable for power to our garage about a foot away from the down leads but that is the toughened type of cable.

Funny you should say that seems to be only channel 55 affected in my case also, think 48 is ok.

Yeap Ch 55 goes completely and Ch 48 has high bit errors (seen on signal status page on TV) but is normally ok.

Took me a long time to find out what was going on as Magerha used to only have Ch 48 and everything was working fine for a long time....

In my case, I had a 100% signal and constant breakup, I weakened the signal(offset the aerial slightly) no problem since.

Checked again tonight and it appears to be affecting both channel 48 & 55 no constantly but frequently.

Thanks for the suggestions will give them a shot.

Will it not work at all without the amplifier?

    Hi Byte,
We are approx. 80 KM from Maghera and the aerial is an indoor attic. Just this tv that seems to be impacted. I have ruled nearly everything out at this stage and my suspission is that the culprit is a CCTV PVR directly above it in the attic. Reckon the CPU/circuitry of the PVR could be the source. Might switch it off and see if that improves matters then perhaps move it further away if the cables connected to it allow for that. Only other things is 4G interference because this tv has the longest run of COAX. Thing that has me stumped is that it's CT100 good quality cable so didn't expect this. What do you think?

    Cheers BuzzG,

Are you using the correct aerial? It's not a vertically polarised VHF aerial, installed for RTE analogue from Maghera?

Do the Saorview & satellite signals share a cable?

Nope UHF wideband corretly polarised for Maghera. Separate cables for Saorview and Satellite all CT100 Coax, just share the same conduit down the wall to the TV in addition to a VGA cable from CCTV PVR.

Removing the amplifier from the equation was mentioned already: how do things look if you connect a single TV directly to the aerial? And the well screened cable is matched by a screened amplifier, & an aerial fitted with a balun?

You've also mentioned 4G a few times, & I presume you can switch off any sources of mobile transmissions in the house. Is there a phone mast nearby though?

Anyhow, in the absence of solid info. on signal quality, & if you can't identify & remove the source of interference, I'd try moving the aerial to a good outside location (generally higher is better, & obviously not pointing at obstructions like trees), which should give a boost to the received signal, & also increase distance from sources of interference in the house.

We had a few issues with my aerial in the attic, intermittent interference and sometimes complete blackouts for no reason, even though the Tv said it has decent signal. As soon as I moved it outside it was perfect. I just extended the aerial with some rg6 and a few f connectors/joiners.

I removed all amplification and indeed as was earlier said I'm getting 70 - 80 signal with no amplification. Just seems to be this TV impacted at mainly in the evening. Going outside with the aerial is a last resort if I can avoid it. The other 3 TV's connected to the same aerial are perfect with no break up. Tempted to change the cable incase it was damaged or kinked in some way when I pulled it into the attic. Kinda stumped at the min :-(

I would try another cable to test it out. Even try to replace/reseat the connectors on the cable
