Anyone with an interest in radio across the water will know that one of the last truly local stations in Liverpool, Juice FM, closed today at 4pm pending the launch of Capital 107.6 on Monday week.

Very disappointing to see it go, especially those who enjoyed its specialist dance output on weekends. One can only hope networking is never as embraced in Ireland is it is in the UK

they have a week of automation now, which will no doubt hand listeners over to the rivals (not that they are much better then capital) . the uk may as well go the whole way at this stage and abolish the regulations and let stations do what they like, it is what will happen anyway. hopefully liverpool will see some pirate action to fill the void as well.

Seeing as the Juice FM stream still works on my radio I listened to about an hour of it there, it's the old UTV stream so it sounds the same with just different idents. In one hour of listening Justin Bieber has been played twice..

Hope Liam Hincks and Ian Longo turn up somewhere soon. The house shows on Juice on Fridays and Saturdays was hard to beat, nothing like it left on the radio

Don't worry it will be here real soon. Local radio will be known as community radio or low budget radio. The only way forward for a multi national to make a profit is less money out more money in. When Capital/Smooth/Radio X are transmitting the way they are today in the UK, its only a matter of time before it happens here. There are really good local radio stations providing the proper music and talk format in their repsective areas but there are a few I don't know how they are still in business. Oh hang on I do... They are subsidised by parent companies.
Folks its coming to our way. Nova and 4FM are just the tip of the iceberg.

By the way its already in play up the north. Q Radio Network has rebranded most of the local radio stations up the North. I hear they have a brand new OB Unit launching this month. I've seen the photo's and its mighty impressive. Its up there with FM104's Roadhog, dare I say it even better!

Since the rebrand, Capital Liverpool is down around 70,000 listeners over Juice FM (234,000 vs 167,000)

The people of Liverpool are unsurprisingly not fans of the networked rubbish from London.

In recent days, in related news, it looks more and more like deregulation of the UK radio market is going ahead so what were once great local brands will now be outlets for Heart, Capital and Bauer's networked services.

Great to see Ireland still having such diversified local output compared to the absolute bland mess the UK radio market has become.
