2007 Corolla Head Unit Replacement

Hi all, the volume button on my 2007 Corolla (E150) Head Unit decided to give up the ghost today. The button now just spins around and won't work. These units just weren't built to last, my second one and I've had the car since new. I'm looking at my options in terms of a new unit.

I was hoping to get an OEM Toyota Touch unit but I'm unsure if it'll work in my car. Presuming the price new would be extortionate (if it was even possible to get one new off the shelf), I've seen a second hand unit online which seems to be out of a GT86 but again, not sure if this will work.

My other option is to get a kenwood/alpine double din. I'm not pushed on having sat nav but I do want a decent unit with good sound, touchscreen and the ability to play music from my android phone via bluetooth if possible. I have a fascia plate ready which I picked up a while back but never used. Looking at getting the stereo installed in the Limerick area when I get it.

Anyone have any suggestions on device/fitting? My budget should be around €500, maybe a little more if needed.

    Thanks in Advance.

Taking the radio itself out and putting it back in is a piece of cake anyway. I've done it a good few times. No specialist tools needed.
Far as I know, either way you will need a Double DIN adaptor whether you go Toyota headunit or not.
I would probably go with aftermarket over OEM headunit in this case.
If you need a hand putting it in, give me a shout, I'm local.
A new uchscreen unit from Toyota would probably cost more than your car!
IIRC even the standard radio is around €1600 new.

They can be repaired AFAIK, I seem to remember that being mentioned on here before. The volume thing is very common though, just bad design.

Is your car Terra, Strata, or Luna

Thanks Colm, mine is a terra with some upgrades from a strata to smarten it up a little (alloys and various trim pieces). Cheers for the offer to give me a hand with it too. I'd say you're right about the aftermarket route.

I have the correct adaptor ready (Carav is the manufacturer of the part). I remember reading a thread here ages back which said the original Toyota adaptor part was only big enough for their own units, slightly different size apparently.

Just a case of finding the right aftermarket unit so. Have you any recommendations of where to shop for one? Halfords is the only place I can think of but their range isn't great.

    I'd look on Ebay.
Yours would have the black trim so would be cheaper to get.
Halfords is expensive for that kind of thing.
Back 10 years ago Toyota were using Double DIN anyway!

I'll have a look and see what I come across. Thanks again!
