Recommendations for new bike

    Hi,

I have an entry level trek road bike with a carbon frame, I've been off the bike for a year or so and prior to that I got out regularly for some 70k spins. I did the ring of Kerry on the bike.

This year I'm planning on doing Westport and the Paris to Nice cycle in September. I'd like a lighter bike, I'm 6ft 4 and 110kg so the hills kill me. Don't want to break the bank but want to get that balance of value for money and good quality.

Second hand would be great.. But I can't seem to find much for my size.

    Any recommendations?

If your current bike is carbon then unfortunately your not going to gain any huge speed or climbing ability by buying a slightly lighter carbon bike.
You don't mention budget but say you don't want to break the bank so your probably not going for top end bikes and probably nearer the €1000-1300 price range in which case your wasting your money.

In my opinion it would make more sense to keep your current bike (as it fits you) and buy a set of lightweight wheels, they will make more of a difference than a new bike ever will. You could also upgrade the group set which would take more weight off the bike.

For €1200 you could get a set of Mavic SLS wheels and Ultegra 6800 group set both of which would transform your bike and probably take over a kilo off the bike weight.

Upgrade the bike to 11sp (e.g. 105), buy an enormo cassette (e.g. 11-32), get some decent wheels, ride it lots.

Or just buy a new one with 11sp 105, but you'll need to spend decent money to get a lightweight carbon frame, good wheels with an 11sp groupset, probably ~2k.
