Was using Vodafone over Christmas/New Year and the reception seemed really poor was rarely able to get any LTE coverage even when in the city centre and as soon as we left the city the HSDPA seemed next to impossible to get even! What networks have decent coverage between Edinburgh & Cockenzie?

I generally find Three have pretty good 3G signal in most parts of Edinburgh.

Thanks will give them a try too.

I checked all the coverage maps and Vodafones seemed like it should be very good was very surprised at how poor it turned out to be! I got an O2 international sim to use for calls back to Ireland will stick that in a proper phone and take it round for a while. Guess I will just have to try a few different sims see what works for us!

    Three is O2 right?

I was on Virgin (that's on EE I think?). Coverage was pretty poor so recently changed to Vodafone. Coverage seems much better. The other half is Vodafone and always seems to have good coverage around the city, which is why I went with them.

Been with o2 since I came over here and never had any issues (except for up in the back of beyond in Perth).

According to Wikipedia Three are now entirely their own thing - the O2 deal was for the 2G coverage. I think they've since ditched it.

I'm with Virgin for my mobile and they were just reusing T-Mobile's network, so it'll now be EE. I've not had any issues with Virgin either, but then again I only use it as a dumbphone so I wouldn't know if there are any patchy spots for data access.

The confusion could be due to Three UK following Three Irelands lead and bidding on O2. A few people I have spoken to here already think they are one and the same.

Giving an EE sim a go from tomorrow. Virgin is on the EE network right? Had a dongle from them and were able to get two bars of 4g so hoping they are the one!

Just in case anyone in the area stumbles on this I've been using BT on EE and consistently getting 3 bars of LTE and a reasonable 9mb/s download in doors.
