    Hey all,

I am having an issue with the passenger seat side airbag in my MK4 Golf.

I have fixed the issue where the plug underneath the seat causes airbag lights to come on, but this is an issue which seems to be caused by people moving the side of the seat, where there side impact airbag is. I need to clear the code and see how it reappears a few times to be sure.

For now though, I am trying to source some replacement seats as they could be well cheaper than getting the airbag itself fixed.

The seats I have are the ones in this photo below. I would just need the front passenger one and some wear on the drivers side means I wouldnt mind having that also. Down side is, I would not be interested in rear seats so getting them split might be an issue.

Does anyone know of any common issues with the side airbag which I could check out?

The error is intermittent high resistance from what Vag Com says.

    Thanks all

I had a MK4 Golf which I believe was the same issue...the passenger side airbag was causing a resistance fault only when the seat was moved. Happened 4 times over 3 years. It is not the airbag that is the problem. When the seat is moved it causes the delicate connectors to cause the above fault without actually disconnecting indicating a resistance issue. In short you may get the same error if you just disconnected the wires under the seat altogether. My current mk5 has suffered the same problem when I moved the seat a few months, only way to solve the seat connector issue really is to be gentle when moving the seat or try not to move it unnecessarily.

Just make sure it is the airbag at fault before replacing the seats imo. If it's the connectors under the seat causing your issue then new seats will not cure it and the error will still appear.

Have a peep under the seat. The cables for the airbag could be dragging along the carpet causing the issue. A few cable ties could sort it out. Or you could press the connector together and use lots of electrical tape to make sure both connectors (male and female) do not move away from each other.

Just to expand on the original post, I fixed the issue with the underseat connectors, so it can't be that.

I soldered the connections under the seats to fix the design flaw with the connector block when the seat moves. That's a very common fault but this issue has to be something else.

It is not caused by seat movement (forward and back) but seems to be when people rub/move against the side wing of the seat.

    Thanks

I have yet to come across a mk4 golf that doesn't have the airbag light on. Such a common issue. Did you look at any of the vw forums to see what others did?

My issue is that the common fix has been applied in my case, so finding an answer to the issue is less easy to come by.
