Hi does anyone know the monthly cost for the new anti coagulant drugs that can replace warfarin?

Provided your doctor applies for authorisation on your behalf, confirming that the reason for the Novel Oral Anti Coagulant prescription is due to genuine 'cannot-take-warfarin' reasons, then the NOAC will be covered under the state drug schemes the same as any other medication, and so will come under your €144 maximum monthly payment if you're on the DPS.

Otherwise, it's a private prescription, so it's a free market. Shop around. There's no set price. The pharmacist can charge whatever he feels the market can stand. You can either choose to pay that amount, or not.

My father in law is on it and it is covered under the DPS for him.

Your Doctor must apply for approval before the NOACs can be dispensed on any
State drug scheme. Until approval is granted the NOAC has to be paid for.
Once approval is granted the NOAC can be dispensed by your pharmacist.
    Under the LTI scheme...no charge.
    Under the GMS scheme...€2.50
Under the DPS scheme...as part of your payment up to 144.00.
