    Hi,
I'm looking to get insured on a car but I'm not sure which type of car would suit, my dad has agreed to buy a car and I can use it when he is not which means I will be a named driver. I'm 20, have a full license, never been insured before.
    Can someone help please???

    What cars do you like?

Something reliable with a low size engine, not bigger than 1.5 and not too expensive. Examples would be, Toyota carolla, Honda civic saloon, mitzubishi lancer, ford focus. I'd personally stay away from French and German cars for low money

A huge engine like 1.5 : they will crucify you on that for the insurance - not to mention road tax. stay well away from high spec engines if you want to be able to afford to drive.

Beat type of car is reliable, and cheap to run for petrol/diesel with low running costs including insurance & road tax. My 1.5 road tax is about 850 every year - I didn't check before I bought : (

For city parking & driving you should be looking at something compact that you can actually find carparking space for.

Tbh a car is a black hole of costs & expenses. You'll be putting petrol & patking tickets into it & everyone will be riding along for free - I'd stay on the bus for another while or make a habbit to ask for & take proper petrol money or you'll just be used as everyonea free taxi. Bye bye drink & nights out.

Motortax for engines above 1400cc and under 1500cc is €413 per year. Where are you getting €850 from? Is your car on the c02 tax system?

Don't agree with anything you have said TBH. A 1.5 litre engine is by not a high spec engine unless it is turbo charged or modified in some way to increase the BHP. Also tax is no where near 850 for a 1.5 litre engine.

IMO you have not given the OP any genuine / good information or advice.

That's just my opinion on your post

Ok, do you have an idea of how big a car you'd like?

The default choice for someone that's 20 and starting to drive would be something like a Toyota Yaris 1.0

How much do you have to spend?

I'd go for a 1.2 l engine personally. Ford Fiesta or Ka, Toyota Yaris, hyundai getz (1.4 l) or Nissan micra (not great for motorways AFAIK). I have a fiesta, got my test in 2015, no points or claims on my own insurance and it is just under 1200 (28 yo).
