Looking for some advice / recommendations ...

Elderly parents - got the VM letter yesterday re. MMDS discontinuation.
Need to find them an alternative.

Basic TV needs - Irish / UK channels, recording, HD would be nice, two tvs
ease of use is v. important. Cost is also a consideration.

What would folks here recommend ? Very much appreciate any
    advice / input.

    THANKS !

    For Irish and uk stations
I would go for a triple combo box like the edission os3 and add an internal hard drive

2 satellite tuners and 1 terrestial tuner means you could watch RTE while recording 2 satellite programmes
or watch a sat station while recording RTE and another sat station

The advantage of a triple tuner is RTE and Satellite in 1 box with 1 remote

there will be some maintenance though from time to time channels move frequency on sat and every few monts may require a recan but straight forward enough

Also as they currently have mmds im guessing there is no sky dish or terrestial antenne
So you will have to factor thi in to the price

    Edission €220
    Hard drive €50
    Sat dish € 30
    terrestial ant €20

+ install if you cant do it yourself

as much as I would not reccomend sky ( usually )

For the elderly it is probably the most straight forward option get the cheapest / basic package available

Thanks for this. I'll look at the Edison box.

Hate giving Sky money ... even though I know from ease of use point of view its straight forward.

    Thanks again

just going to give my own experience

my parents had MMDS and switched to sky, they took up one of the car phone warehouses. Prior to getting rid of MMDs they were paying €33 pm with no record facility.

Just for ease of use i signed them up to sky. the car phone warehouse offer has now expired and they are paying half price on the original bundle so that is €14.75 pm

Just be aware that anything other the an official Sky Box entails a learning curve, some more than others. The Sky Box is the easiest to operate by a country mile. I'm saying this as a user of several different boxes. For ease of operation its the best, despite what others might recommend here. And I ditched Sky 30 months ago:)

Thanks for all the info / advice

Think I will recommend Sky for them - even though it pains me to do so
but for ease of use probably best option for them.
