Preserving pheasant pelts

    I was wondering is it a big job to preserve pheasant pelts. I will have two new pups coming in the new year and I always just used to tie wings to dummy's and it works grand, but I would love to use pelts, just to give that more real feel and look,and I would just love to try the process.
    Any advise and instructions would be great.

    Pull the wings off and salt at the bone and it worked for me when training my pup and Harris hawk for good few months without fallen apart

    Something similar to above post, but, I've skinned the birds from the back snipped the bones at the wing joints and cut off the claws. Scrape the fat off the skin, then rub with salt and leave in a cool dry spot until it dried. You can manipulate the skin on a daily bases to maintain suppleness.
    I've one in the freezer that I did differently by freezing shortly after salting.
    If you have a quiet room with a hot radiator you can drop one down the back on a piece of string and it will dry faster.

    Skin them, leaving wings intact and scraping any fat off. Then salt or use borax powder on them and change the salt as it gets damp. I make my own rabbit, duck and pheasant dummies this way. For most birds I cut the wings off, nail them to the rafters of the shed and ignore for six months when they're dry and perfect for dummies.
