    Hi all,

I am looking for advice in my career path. Up to now I've been taking what ever job has come & gone with that. My background: Graduated with Bsc in Computer Science in 1996 - worked in banks in Dublin as a programmer till 2001. Then went traveling for 6 months. When I came back in 2002 IT jobs were not as plenty, but got a job. Then in 2006 I decided if I done CIMA accounting qualification, it would be good to have with IT. So I done this and qualified in 2011. In 2010 I took a job in IT testing/support, which is what I'm currently doing. I find that I'm learning little here, and not using the CIMA qualification at all after doing it. Oracle financials is an area which combines IT & Finance so it would be very interested in it, but hard to get started(experience) on it. Another area which would prob be good for me would be financial analyst.

Any advice would be much appreciated

What about a business analyst role in an organisation using an ERP system such as oracle Hyperion or SAP?

There is a drive to automate some jobs that are highly paid now, so chances are that they will be either completely automated in 10 years time or much less labour intensive, which will probably mean less pay.

In the grand scheme of things, the safest path is software development. However, that requires a lot of self-directed learning and you should dedicate everything that you do towards quality and high standard. Software will always exist, and it will power finance, governments and an increasing amount of things around us. If you are willing to solve hard problems and invest personal time in learning, then take up software development.

Business/data analytics will be a lucrative area until it will be de-skilled or automated by software developers, so if you wish, take it while it's still hot.

    Thanks for replies.

    "

What about going into the Oracle field ?

Any other advice - much appreciated...

Not sure about oracle but there are plenty of jobs in SAP Finance (fico) (eg Kerry Group, Glanbia, Apple). Getting in without experience in SAP might be an issue though.

Also the consultancies are mad for IT Finance people, especially Accenture if that would interest you.

    Again thanks for replies.

Anybody working in Accenture - what it like to work there ? Are there a lot of opportunities? What sort of projects are you working on ? Thanks
