Megane Mk3 heater control panel bulb type

So after getting away with a few days of banging the dash to get the heater controls to light up one of the bulbs seems to have permanently gone. My issue is I can't find the bulb type it takes anywhere. All I know is there is two bulbs behind the unit. I've ordered trim removal tools so I want to try and get the bulbs before I have to take the old ones out.

Apart from the bulbs I've looked at a few guides and it doesn't seem too bad to remove the facia etc but I'm wondering with the heater cables etc will there be enough slack to pull out the heater control unit as I don't want to have to disconnect the cables for that unless I have too I'm really just trying to do it as easy as possible. Another idea I had was remove the radio and leave the heater controls in place and get my hand up behind it through the radio gap to remove the bulbs.

Finally if I disconnect the radio will it need a radio code when I reconnect it or do they even have radio codes anymore ? I'm not sure if I have the radio code I'll have to go looking.

I tried searching for the bulb type too but found no results. You'll have to remove the bad bulb and find a replacement I guess.

If you're disconnecting wiring make sure you remove the negative lead off the battery. Some cars throw airbag lights on and all sorts of stuff if you don't and them you need a scan tool to turn them off.

Just take your time with the plastics and it will be grand.

Also, if you're not buying the replacement bulb from the dealership I suggest you get enough bulbs to change them all so there is no colour difference.

I'm not sure if they're LED bulbs but if they are not you should go for LED bulbs as they last longer and will look brighter.

    All IMO of course.

There is only two so I'll replace them both regardless. For the sake of a few etc euro I might just get them in the dealer. Thanks for the tips :) As for your above post I have to disconnect the cigarrette light and stop start button so I probably should disconnect the battery.

I assume there will be no issue disconnecting the stop start button when removing the panel and reconnecting it after its a block connection into the back of it I know. As I would assume it's just a simple switch and doesn't interact with the ecu as the keycard unit would do that and that can remain in situ so won't be an issue. But if I disconnect the battery I can't see it being an issue. I'm just covering all basis as I don't want to not be able to start the car after changing the bulb as the button is supposed to be coded in or something like that.

    Update

Right so I got this issue sorted out. I did it Friday after these arrived took less than an hour and that was going slowly and including the trip to the main dealer to get the replacements. Trim removal tool they are very handy for removing trim without damaging it and a must have for any car DIYers tool box.

So First I removed the trim at each side of the console and then the centre console trim itself, then I removed the radio.

Two torx T20 screws holding the heater controls in place remove them unclip the cable going to the heater control and then the unit was free to twist.

Long nose pliers to twist the bulb holders and then remove them two on the unit.

The Culprit I got two replacement bulbs in the main dealer for 5 euro and replaced both.

5 minutes to put it all back together. Great success!

As another question I went to see about replacing the bulb in the 12 volt outlet dealer said you have to replace the whole unit and you can't just replace the bulb 69.50 euro plus the vat they quoted  which is too much considering it still works and id be only replacing it over the blown bulb. I was trying to find one on eBay but can't. Anyone have any ideas around it ? The white piece is where the bulb is held.

Thanks for the info above... following your instructions right now but getting stuck on the "radio removal" - seems quite stubborn! Where did you lever the radio out from - each side and/or the bottom? The right hand side of the radio doesn't seem to want to budge...
    Thanks

You need to remove the dash trim first then from what I remember there are two screws holding it in place. So pull the trim off first start low down and gently pull it off. Try YouTube as well some helpful videos on there.
