    hi,

does anybody have a espresso jacket? I am about to buy one but reading a few reviews Im a bit worried it might be too 'warm' for typical Irish winter? I have a castelli mortirolo which is great for the cooler days but found myself getting a bit cold this week (I ride at night sometimes 10pm by the time i get home).

Any real world experience would be great i dont want to buy it if im realistically not going to get the use.

    thanks

Wear an extra base layer and see if that works before splashing out?

yeah iv moved on to my thicker B/L's after a mild enough december but just this week it seems to have got colder. I'l be out for higher paced ride over the weekend that might help (night time around suburbs is a bit stop start so i dont think that was helping!)

Not what you've asked but I've used this a a few 100km plus rides in pretty abysmal conditions; Biblical rain, 2/3 C and also some mild enough weather.

I tend to run warm and only use very light baselayer with it and it handles a range of temperatures well.

Not waterproof but rain proof and you stay warm.

On long climbs open outer zip which helps to keep temperature down and close at top for windproofing on descent.

I use rear mudguard which helps to keep it clean. Don't think these expensive products response well to the washing machine too much!

I think you can use a compare function when using castelli cafe on desktop

Espresso has more venting (in the shoulder panels) than Motirolo. I'd rate it for 2-7c with a light base. It's also more water resistent and wind proof than the Motirolo as it's Windstopper all the way, whereas the Motirolo has a mix of panels. It's an elite cut, and maybe a tad shorter than the Motirolo, so make sure to have a long base or comfy bibs.

So, it's for slighly cooler, damper weather than Motirolo.

    Alpha is an excellent jacket.

Do you have experience with the espresso and mortirolo? I am xl in mortirolo and gabba and assumed the xl would do me fine in the espresso? when you say elite cut is it tighter than the mortirolo?

    cheers

Motirolo is a more relaxed fit than Gabba or Espresso. Espresso is not as stretchy as Gabba. Comfort would depend on how flat your core is.

Alpha would be for the coldest weather.

I wore my new Expresso 3 jacket for first time this morning attempting to go over Sally Gap. I bottled it and did an alternate loop. The jacket is Large and perfect on me. By way of reference Large Castelli bib tights just fit me, I'm 180cm & 82kg.

It was cold this morning I wore a h/h merino base layer. Venting works well.

Watch what you pay though. Maybe I got a very good deal ~€160 before Christmas - http://www.winstanleysbikes.co.uk

    Best jacket I've ever had.

This the only Castelli jacket I have. If it helps I wear large Assos Bib shorts, large or medium jackets in other brands.
I must say the jacket does not feel tight in any way around the core/gut, arms or shoulders.

    Hope that helps
