Anyone any thoughts on astra h 04 to 09 in petrol? Getting mixed reviews from pals, one had a leak which resulted in head work etc and in past week has another hose pipe leak.

Would they a weak engine or is he just unlucky?

Seem to be plenty on dd. Is that a good or bad sign?

I assume you mean oil leak. Have heard reports that the oil pressure switch/sensor can sometimes fail, and can sometimes experince a clutch shudder.

Saying that, I replaced my sensor as a precaution on an 06 GTC. Only costing a few euro, and 30 seconds work. Do get the clutch shudder, but generally it would be on a cold engine on a slope.

Only other issue was a replacement unit for the ABS. Other wise drives great with over 120k kms on the clock.

I had one, head gasket went which was costly repair, quoted as high as 1600 but got it done for 600 eventually. It's a common enough problem I think. Mine was the GTC. Mine absolutely devoured oil as well, no leaks found but it went through it at a serious rate. Few things i found with it, the doors are big and heavy and can cause hardship when some eejit parks right beside you and you have to limbo your way in. Rear visibility is non existent and it's a deceptively big car to squeeze into spots. Radio isn't great, no cup holders, limited cabin storage, pain In the ass to change the headlight bulbs as well.

Having said all that I loved it for the first six months or so but got fed up then.

The 1.4 litre petrol engines in these has been known to kill themselves, not sure if there is a model year in which it is safe to buy one though.

I have a petrol astra 1.4 h 05 model , great car to drive tho imo a little underpowered for a heavy car
few probs with oil pressure switch (tends to be a general problem with them ) the 05 model was recalled a few years ago with the crank bolts not tightend to spec (according to opel) and I have changed the crank position sensor twice in the last 3 years
would def upgrade to newer type astra wen needs be .

    I had a 08 1.6 115bhp Astra H up until April.
No serious problems had to replace the coil pack a year ago though.

Heavy enough on fuel roughly 32mpg.

Ah here, they're not that bad. Surely the door thing is similar to most other 3-door coupes, as for manovering, and parking, I never had a problem. Oil, maybe yes, I do have to start topping it up about 10 months after its annual service. Bulbs I got used too after a few changes. Do agree with another poster though, its a big car for a 1.4.

Didn't mean to sound too negative :o I was more saying about the doors as a word of warning if they're not used to or have experience of coupes before. It was my first time having one and the doors caught me a bit by surprise. Theirs no problem parking it allright just meant the visibility through the back window is rubbish.

Mine did absolutely devour oil, had it looked at and nobody could detect a problem but I'd say it went through about every 3 months. Could never get to the bottom of it.

Hi I've an 2007 Opel Astra h I've had it with a mechanic with a problem that the car is losing power sometimes and when pressing down on the pedal take extra few secs for the Rev to go up and in first gear when it loses power it cuts out could this be a throttle body housing problem or else a throttle position sensor anybody have there say on this or similar problems

i had the exact prob with my astra before my crank position sensor went ,only when the sensor went I realised that was causing mine to loose power and conk out ,so cud be that or prob another sensor of some kind , luckly for me mine went in the mechanics yard . it tends to conk out and not restart (in my case anyway )
