Hoping to go on a sun holiday this Summer in either second half of July or second half of August. We have a 4 year old and a 9 month old baby.Appreciate any advice on possible destinations/good 3 star hotels or self catering apartments people have been to with young children in likes of the Algarve,Malta, or other usual suspects of European sun destinations.

Was looking online last night at ' Click and Go' website which comes with good reputation but for say a 10 day stay anywhere including flights you were talking 2000 euro+.....

Myself and wife were hoping you could get flights, accom and say halfboard if in hotel.....or flights accom and decent self catering apartment for ten days for say 1500 euro all in.

Is that realistic at all?.....have not been on a 'sun hol' with kids before....and appreciate July/August is high season, any feedback with recommendations on destinations/hotels/apartments greatly appreciated.

    Hi there
I have read your post. I see that with both a 4 year old and 9 month old it will be hard work going on a sun holiday. First theres the flight. The 9 month old might have problem with its ears so my advice would be to pack some Calop to give it before boarding. In Europe the best place to go with a young family is Portugal. It is so child friendly and there are lots of activites for your little ones to keep them entertained. Also the restaurants have childrens menus and play areas. Another place that is also popular with young families is Lanzarote. I have never been there myself but I heard that its extremely popular with young families as all the restaurants are extremely child friendly and none of them have childrens menus with chicken nuggets. Also it is really safe and there are no drunks falling around or anything like that. Also if you are travelling with young children July and August is a bit hot and busy so the best time to go would maybe be in early June as it is not the high season yet and it isnt too hot yet

Thanks for your reply.....we are prepared to go through the stress of two young kids on hols......after our 'non summer' in Ireland last year we feel the need for all our sakes to get some Vit D:)

Would anyone recommend any particular reasonably priced hotels/self catering apartments in areas they have been to in Portugal or other ' child friendly' resorts.

Unfortunately we have to travel in the high season because of work commitments,

So in a nutshell would people who have been on sun hols recently with two kids say you need to allow at least 2000 euro for flights and accommodation or can it be done for less while still staying in a nice location and accom in July or August.

Really appreciate any feedback or recommendations of places to try booking on people's past experiences, thanks.

I think €1500 is very low and you'll end up in some cheap dump and not get value for the money you've spent. Your talking peak season times there which will always command more money.

My kids are older now but since they came along we've packed the car and headed to campsites in France. Self catering but the whole ferry experience is so much easier than flying with such young kids.
Pick a good campsite with direct access to a beach and your set up for a wonderful holiday.

Please, please, don't give medication to you child because of his ears during the flight. I´ve been travelling with my son since he was 2 months old and never had a problem. just giving him something to eat/drink/suck on during landing and take off.

Most places in Spain and Portugal are great to go as a family. I love Tenerife, but I would actually rather choose anywhere in the Costa Blanca area. The mediterranean water is calmer and warmer than what you would find in areas facing the Atlantic.

I think you would get better value at the end of august than the end of July but if at all possible June would be a lot cheaper. The year before last we brought our then 7 month old to the oceanus apartments in olhos d'agua in the algae. Whole thing for 10 nights including flights only cost about 1k. Reasonable prices when there too
