    Hi All

    I'm thinking of buying a 05 520D 2.2 Petrol.
Any info about fuel efficiency or anything I should look out for before buying.
140k miles on the clock & 4 previous owners.

    Much appreciation

    I'd say early 30mpg's.

520d is a diesel 2 litre. What you are talking about is an e60 520i which is a 2.2 petrol. In town/city driving you will get early to mid 20s mpg. I have a 2.5 and it is 24 around town. Motorway you will get close to 40mpg if you don't exceed 120 kmph. I have never averaged 40 on a run but have returned 37-38 but I would exceed this speed sometimes. Your long term average will depend on your type of driving and where you drive. Mine is an automatic by the way, manuals are meant to be better on fuel, although I had a 3 series manual 2.0 petrol and it wasn't much better than the 2.5 automatic in a bigger car. Great cars though, research your purchase well and make sure you get a good one

Manual gearbox is more efficient only in a brochure.

It is POSSIBLE to have advertised consumption with a manual gearbox, but it requires a lot of skill, patience etc.

With automatic - well - advertised values are usually higher, but what an average Joe gets is much closer - skill has much less to do with it, as the gearbox is doing a lot for you - and it does the same for you and for The Stig.
