Implant - Here or abroad?

    Hey folks,

So I was assaulted pre Christmas that resulted in the loss of one tooth (being crowned) and the root fracture of the one beside it. The fractured tooth needless to say is doomed and the dentist I'm seeing has recommended an implant as the best course of action.

But it's going to cost a fortune (€2,565) - I've heard of people getting procedures like this done in Budapest so I'm just looking for peoples experience on it. I want to say I'm absolutely not looking to cut corners on this; its my teeth at the end of the day and medical issues are not something I'd ever cheap out on. Where I'm coming from is if I can get the same treatment and care elsewhere for a fraction of the cost I'd be mad not to I'd think?

You can certainly get the same treatment in name, but don't expect the same final result for a fraction of the cost.
Like being quoted €60k for a car and asking online if you should consider another car for €30k. Both are cars, just different cars....

If you not trying to save money then go with a local operator with a good reputation, training and experience.

If you trying to save money then you can get eastern European style, low quality level and low cost of dentistry in Ireland at the same prices. But be aware that like with anything in this world you will get what you pay for.

An implant is not the same regardless of who does it, the type of implant, the laboratory work and the surgical and post operative care. Standards vary widely in quality and patient experience. One thing that does not vary is marketing and everyone will tell you their job is the best one. Use common sense and use the same logic you would if getting any other medical operation. Dentistry is basically unregulated and there are loads of potential traps out there, there are cowboys home and abroad, but generally these birds of a feather sing the same song - low cost, high speed, cheesy shills, deflection from quality questions, no risk, false claims of experiance or training, distraction with marketing speak, the ability to tell you exactly what you want to hear, and ridiculous guarantees that are never followed through on.

    Thanks folks, appreciate the reply.

Again, not trying to cut corners but as its coming out of my own pocket I'd rather explore all the providers before I take on debt for it - ultimately if that's what it'll cost then that's no problem but in the interests of prudence I said I'd ask the question as I have heard of people having had successful procedures overseas for a fraction of the cost (Which makes sense as lower cost labour/rent etc over there).

by the time you have travelled abroad for treatment (2,3 or more times) any savings from cheaper treatment will be gone. not to mention the time required. have you asked around for quotes in ireland?
