Mercedes W211 warning light and gear shift issue

    Hello,

I have two intermittent issues over the last few weeks on a late model w211. The problems are:

    (1) occasionally unable to shift out of Park following startup. Bo get around this by tapping the accelerator before depressing the brake pedal again.

    (2) occasionally when driving, the yellow warning light illuminates and errors display on the screen about ESP, Brake Hold and Run-Flat indicators not working. This generally disappears after two restarts.

Can anyone advise whether or not these are serious and how to approach fixing. Alternatively, any good Indy specialists in Dublin, Kildafe, Wexford or Mayo to be recommended?

    Thanks.

Fault could be in the brake pedal switch, as the signal from this is used to actuate the gearshift release solenoid. This may also tally with your ESP issue. You do need to have the circuit tested or a scan done.

You need this fixed ASAP. I used to get that warning light intermittantly and then it went, then one day the brakes went. Gone. No brakes. It can be caused by a multitude of problems. Find a good independent mercedes garage that knows whats what. There are simple causes and extreme causes, anything from coroded metal brake pipes to bulging worn rubber parts that leak ever so slightly the psi from the pump. The pump works at a constant 180psi. Any change to this and the computer will read a brake failure and stop the cat and you will not be able to shift the stick.

My fault was bits of a lot of things that needed to be replaced. The brake ' hold' command will not work only because the SBC counter reads 2million + presses and the limit was set at 300k by MB, hence the failure of the SBC pum, the MB recall and a bill out of warranty of around 2k to the customer.

Most likley the brake light switch.

Its a late model 211, therefore I assume its a facelit car, these dont have SBC brake systems just a standard servo assisted system.

If it was my car id buy a new brake
