I am looking for ideas for a sun holiday with our 1 year old. Thinking around may time maybe the Algarve but open to other ideas. looking to fly from Knock but can fly from Dublin. I don't want someplace to far of a drive from the airport as i think the flight will be enough on our baby. some place cheep but nice and near a beach. Thanks in advance for the help.

I've recommended Costa Sal in Matagorda, Lanzarote on here many times before.

It's perfect for travelling with a young baby. We've been here with our kids three times now - first time was with our first when she was two, second time (July 14) when our second was three months old and our first was four and again last September.

We're booking again for this July.

For a young family it's ideal. It's only 10 mins from the airport in a taxi (about €12) or you could hire a car really cheaply too with car seat included - Cabrera Medina, PlusCar and Autoreisen all offer free kids seats for their hire cars, as do my new favourite on the island, Omnicars.

It's pretty well located, a couple of hundred metres from the beach, five mins walk to the commercial centre with a supermarket that stocks everything you'd need for baby including nappies, formula etc. 10 mins walk in another direction and you've a great choice of bars and restaurants all looking out over the sea.

€5 in a taxi gets you into the centre of Puerto del Carmen if you want a change of pace/scenery.

Lanzarote is such a family friendly island, you'll just relax into it!

OP, you mentioned cheap, I wouldn't consider Costa Sal cheap, expensive enough in high season, we were there in July last year but its 10 minutes from the airport and it is a lovely spot, clean & well managed

Agreed, it's not cheap in the high season, but there's great value to be had May/June or September when the weather is still great.

We were there in September. Couldn't believe the prices for July this year, but no wiggle room on dates this year means we suck it up or look elsewhere, with our main problem being wifey's insistence on AirCon which really limits the options.

Another place we were looking at nearby is the Hotel Floresta in Los Pocillos, even closer to the beach and closer to a huge range of bars and restaurants.

There are loads of cheap properties in the main resort too, but I stayed in PdC once and really didn't enjoy it. Other options are to look at Costa Teguise which is really family-friendly or Playa Blanca, but while it's lovely, it's a trek from the airport and isn't a great base from which to explore the island (if you're so inclined).

Best thing to do is to search on Booking.com and narrow down your search by putting in a price range. Anything that looks appealing could be cross checked against TripAdvisor.

Is that not a bit of a long flight though. I think flying into Malaga would be much more manageable.

I spent 3 weeks in the Algarve last summer with a 2 year old and a 6 month old. I was kind of dreading it to be honest but it was surprisingly easy. Stayed in a little town called gale about 10k from albufeira (think it was about a tenner and 10mins in a taxi away) close enough to pop in whenever the mood takes you, but far enough away to not be holiday central, no late night bars or wandering herds of tequila fuelled, lust crazed 20 somethings. (It's a sure sign you're getting old when you look to avoid crowds of randy drunken women:D)
I can highly recommend it, there's not much to do, but there's not too much you can do with a one year old in tow anyway. Gale beach is beautiful.

Not at all! For us there's been little difference in terms of how we coped or how the kids have coped on flights ranging from 1 hour to UK, 2+ hours to the South of France and the 4+ hour flight to the Canaries.

Worst we've had to deal with was a melt-down for 5 minutes prior to push-back when we had to fasten our seat belts, so that could have happened on a flight of any duration! Maybe we've just been lucky?
