hi , i was just wondering if there were any local journalists on this forum. I am a student teacher and was wondering if you have ever had any historians write a column for your paper?

i was thinking of doing a few voluntary pieces and see what happens, a kind of reeling in tthe years for a week in time, the week of publication. what was happening say in 1950s, 60s etc or even big events in 18th or 19th century and tying it to local intrests.

roughly what word count would be allowed for this? if it were a runner?

Carlow Nationalist used to, or maybe still does, run a column by Turtle Bunbury. Dunno if it was syndicated (Laois Nationalist ran it too).

Pretty much did what you said.

I think the Times had an 'on this day' bit some years back.

Not sure the nationals would be keen, regionals - if localised - might
