Option for one off purchase of shares

I'm looking to buy some shares shortly in a few companies with cash that I think can work better than just sitting in a bank account.

I intend on taking a relatively long-term view on these shares until such time that I want to have the money as a deposit for a house

From doing some research, it looks like an Execution Only service is what I'm looking for but as I hope to maintain my position for quite some time and won't really be actively using the service, I don't particularly want to get nailed for fees.

    What would be my options?

I know this gets bandied about on here a lot - have you looked into Degiro?

Campbell O Connor Stockbrokers in Dublin 2 would probably be best for you. Although Degiro is cheaper. Campbell O Connor would be quicker and easier for a one off purchase

Assuming they're just bricks and mortar based, is there any advantage to going through those as opposed to an online version? What would make it faster for example, as I'm assuming I'd still have to transfer them the cash?
