    Hi all
Quick question. I am living in Dublin but getting married in Carlow. Can I register to marry in Dublin or must I go to the office in Carlow.

It's just it's only opened midweek

I got married down the county and you have to go to the registrar for the district you are getting married in.

No you don't. You can register your intent to marry anywhere in the country. I checked myself as im getting married in Kildare but i have my appt in Meath. I rang the offices myself to double check.

Actually, just checked, if it is a civil ceremony i think you have to apply to the region where you are getting married in to book your slot.

I got married in Athlone and registered in Dublin in Lombard Street.

Ours is a Humanist so im booked in to the Meath office as it is closest for us but our wedding ceremony is in Kildare. I rang the office in Kildare and he said you can register your intent anywhere, doesn't have to be in the County you are getting married in.

We got married in Kildare but we registered in the county where we lived.

Bit off topic but from all I can find online it seems that both myself and my fiancée have to get our birth certificates an "apostille stamp" from the British Embassy as we were both born in England. Seems odd that they accept Italian, Latvian birth certs as is but not UK. Will ring to confirm but anyone heard any different?

I posted here about it a couple of months ago....yes you need them, they can only be gotten by post not in person (courier actually!) and it's through the office in Milton Keynes. The British embassy did them back in the day but no longer. In the manner of 'computer says no' the sentence that was repeated to us about 10 times by the registrar was that 'it's not us, it's The Hague Convention....'

Give yourself 2-3 weeks from start to finish whilst applying....think the website said 24 hours or something but it certainly wasn't for mine. Good luck!

Hi OP, we registered in December - living in Dublin but getting married in Cork; we went to Lombard St to register but had to ring up to make the appointment - the website explains that if you're getting married in a different district to the one you're registering in, you can't use the online booking. For whatever reason!

I had to get an apostille stamp from the U.K. and it was pretty quick - think it came back to me after 3 days. Good luck!

That only applies to civil ceremonies. I registered online for the Dublin office last week for a wedding in another county.

Princess Peach, we're having a church wedding and were told by an employee in the office that we couldn't use the online registration...must be a case of left hand not knowing what the right hand does!
