Dark circles under eyes

    Hi everyone,

I've had dark circles under my eyes for some time now, and to be honest, I'm pretty damn depressed and self-conscious about them :(

I've been researching into ways to get rid of them (or at least reduce them) and in particular I've found that foods with fatty omega 3 acids (salmon/walnuts) can help, as well as the Renergie lift multi action eye cream and also applying cold teabags/cucumber slices on the eyes.
But as a guy who has no experience in the world of beauty, I'm feeling totally lost as to how to go about this.

I'm pretty sure genes don't have much to play here in my case, but stress might as my twin (who's always been very chilled out) doesn't have them at all.

Anyway, if anyone has any success stories or advice I'd really appreciate any info.

    Thanks a mil :)

hi jay! i'm not a doctor by any means but have you considered looking at the reason behind it? it's your own business and all but was thinking, could be dehydration? drink plenty of water throughout the day. im old-skool in that i don't believe in any of those creams etc(and i'm a girl!).

    Thanks for the reply gercoral

Yeah I've been brain-storming for a while as to why I have them, and I'm pretty sure dehydration isn't it, first thing I do in the morning is drink a pint of water and then keep sipping away throughout the day, my diet has always been very good too.

I can only think of stress as well as two bad habits I had when I was a teenager which were rubbing my eyes and sleeping with my face on the pillow. But I've avoided doing those for years now

40 year old male, started within the last two years. I've tried a few creams, absolutely worthless. Diet is good, drink plenty of water yada, yada. Sleep pattern is brutal, always has been though.

I tried concealer, but was turning in to Boy George. Getting my bloods done soon just to rule out anything.

I've had dark circles my whole life (female). My mum has them too so I think they are at least in part hereditary. They say drinking lots of water to keep toxins at bay helps and I do notice they are darker when I haven't been drinking as much water.

I am lost without concealer though and if I was having a no make up day I would still put on concealer. I find even just a light tough make a bit difference. You may not want to wear make up for but the few I would recommend to try out that won't break the bank are: Collection concealer either Lasting perfection or luminating touch, maybeline age rewind eraser or Catrice Liquid camouflage concealer. Collection and Maybeline can be got in Boots while Catrice is in Penneys. Apply where you have good light, only use a small bit, let it sit on the skin for a minute and then gently blend in, be careful with your skin as it is quite thin and delicate around the eye area.

Mine is an age spot, not dark circles. Here is what I have noticed. I started using Monsia Skincare in December 2014. I have an age spot on my left cheek, right on the bone under my left eye. I am so used to seeing it that I don't pay any attention to it. BUT our daughter & family were over from Holland last Easter and she commented that my age spot had lightened considerably and that one tiny corner has disappeared. I put it down to the hyaluronic acid in the toner, and day & night moisturizers. I know that now I can wear very little foundation and it is completely covered.

Sometimes it is just genetic, unfortunately. Eye creams are good for keeping the area hydrated. But I haven't come across one that can actually affect the area beyond cosmetically.

I use a corrector and a concealer. Using only concealer is not enough for me. My favourite corrector is Giorgio Armani Master Corrector in 2 Orange. And yes, it is orange and it helps to counteract the blue/purple tones. Bobbi Brown correctors are great too. Then I apply concealer over it, my favourite being Lancome Effacernes. This depends on your skin type. Effacernes works fine for my dry skin. I use a teeny tiny amount of both. If you need to pile stuff on to cover it up, that is not the right stuff for you.

Hi, I agree with the other user's suggestion to see a doctor in order to find the reason behind your under eye circles. More sleep, eye creams, teabags, cucumber slices didn't make any differences to mine. I found out my dark eye circles were due to an unbalanced diet, more specifically, a lack of certain nutrients- iron and omega 3.

There are some concealers that I've tried and can recommend to you:
-Bonjour healthy mix- creases the least , quite thick in consistency, best for normal/oily skin
-Maybelline fit me concealer- creases a little, suitable for dry skin
The collection 2000 one that SunnyDayz suggested is also really good and is the cheapest option

    Hope that helps!

Dark circles occur due to heredity, aging, dry skin, prolonged crying, working for long hours in front of a computer, mental stress, lack of sleep and an unhealthy diet. Both men and women of different age groups can have dark circles. Dark circles are not a serious skin problem but they make one look tired and unhealthy. Below listed are some home remedies to get rid of dark circles: 1. Almond oil is very beneficial to lighten dark circles. Daily use of almond oil can lighten your dark circles. 2. Rose water is also beneficial to lighten your dark circles. It rejuvenates the skin. 3 Lemon juice can also help remove dark circles under the eyes.

    Hi Jay,

I grew up suffering the same myself. Do you suffer allergies/sinus? These can contribute to dark circles. Mine were more "sunken". I found a great doctor in Dublin who fixed the rings edge with injectable filler. It's a pretty tricky job and best handled by professionals....but it was so worth it in the end. My friends and family all noticed something "different"...but weren't sure what.

How interesting, I take an iron tablet together with 2 Artemisinin tablets a day to keep breast cancer away, 2nd year clear - yay!! Might also be keeping dark circles at bay - double yay!!

This is all great info guys, I really appreciate every bit of it. Thanks a mil.
I'm pretty sure stress and long hours in front of a screen are the reasons for my dark circles, but I'm getting bloods done next week just to be sure. :)

I've been trying out the green tea bag method and (at the risk of asking a stupid question!!) I'm just wondering does it matter what type of green tea bags I use? I've been using green tea with jasmine or sometimes green tea with lemon, but my flatmate was telling me that the pure green tea bags are the only ones I should using...:(

Make sure you keep us updated. Incidentally I have also read that Vit E oil is another possibility, I googled "does Vit E oil help get rid of dark circles under eyes?" and up popped a who raft of entries.

Lemon juice can also help remove dark circles under the eyes.

Each to their own, but I'd never use lemon juice anywhere on my face, let alone on the delicate eye area.

This makes sense, please keep us updated so we all can learn. Could be something very simple, i.e. short of iron or vit C etc.

    Hi guys,

Still waiting on the results of my blood tests, but I was told that apparently pure vitamin E oil is very good for dark circles, particularly vitamin E oil by the JÄSÖN brand. I got a small bottle of it this evening and will post back here in 2 weeks or so and let you know if it's made any difference :)
