Where did you get the airlocks from.Did the issue with the burner happen after you ran out of oil.You really need an oil pressure gauge to test the oil pump.It sounds like your possibly not getting fuel to the nozzle

I didn't run out of oil. The tap was turned off on the oil line. There seems to be oil going as far as the nozzle. It worked for a while yesterday then stopped. For some reason it just won't fire up.

if you have oil at the nozzle then stop pressing the reset button you could now have oil pooling in the base of the combustion chamber

Simple test,if you have been trying to fire the burner, remove the burner and see if the inside of the blast tube is wet/damp with oil.

Would that stop it firing up. The only place that I can see oil is at the nozzle.

if you have been trying to fire the burner and it didnt fire the blast tube would be wet/damp with oil.So you then have to go back to fuel supply, pump or solenoid coil. You would really need a pressure gauge, vacuum gauge and multimeter to test

did you touch the pressure adjuster on the pump when you were trying to bleed the airlock

OK. The blast tube is dry. So that's means the pump. I also put a new solenoid in as well today.

Check to make sure the firevalve is fully open. And that the oil filter is clean.it doesnt necessarily mean its the pump.A pressure gauge would prove if its faulty. It could be the control box not opening the coil but unlikely. What make of boiler and burner do you have...

Had to disconnect the fire valve eailer. Thats what started this whole mess to begin with. Someone closed it and it got jammed shut. There is plenty of oil running to the burner. I just cannot figure out why it won't fire up. I think that it could be a he pump.
There was a good spark today on the electroids.

It certainly points to the pump, were you trying to restart the burner continously before you realized that there was a fault with the fire valve...

Yes I was. It not that long ago that I had it cleand out. So wasn't expecting any problems. Will change the pump and see.
Thanks for all the help and replys.

The oil is the lubricant for the pump. The reset button should really be only be pressed twice without oil.So with the firevalve being shut the pump was running with no lubricant. So the fault should be pump.
Ideally, After fitting the pump the pressure should be set using a pressure gauge and the burner/boiler set up using a flue gas analyser to the correct output required for the house and to its maximum efficiency.
