Replacing Rear Wheel Studs MF135

    Hi,

    Moving on with my MF135 Restoration and getting through the braking system. There are two wheel studs broken on both rear wheels. The manual says to hammer the old ones out and pop the new one in and put nut on it to pull it onto the splines. Sounded easy enough until I went to do it. Hammered out the broken ones, no problem there :D. The new ones are too long to go into the hole at the back:(. It looks like someone replaced two before at some point and filed the top of the stud on one side to get it to go in far enough to be pushed into the hole. The new studs are the same size as the old ones. Am I doing something wrong here? Do I need to remove the round piece where the studs are to install new ones, if so this seems like a very big job. Is it bad practice to file down one side of the stud to get them to fit in.

    Did you rotate the hub to see if there's any area with sufficient clearance?

    Yes I did but It's the same all round. Was thinking of using a chisel or file to cut a notch to get out the stud.

    Where is the bolt getting caught is it on part of the break drum's rear cover? Personaly I wouldn't be a fan of putting a chisel to work in these situations. Post a picture of the issue it might help.

    Yes that's the piece, just in front of rear drum. I used a small sharp chisel and cut small grove. I could not see any other way to do this.
