Florists open Christmas-New Year's?

Getting married between Christmas and New Year this year in Dublin and have begun searching for a florist. I hadn't considered it would be an issue but about 3/4 I've contacted so far are closed from Christmas Eve until the New Year.

I'm not looking for anything major, just a bouquet and some buttonholes. Has anyone gotten married at a similar time of year and managed to find a florist that's open?!

One florist has offered collection on Christmas Eve and claims the flowers will be fine three days later if stored in water but this makes me nervous.....

I'm getting married on the 29th and we found the same issue. We'll be getting the flowers at the market and have asked a friend to arrange them as their gift to us. We've been told they'll be fine for a few days if kept in good conditions

Supply is a big problem over Christmas, as is cost. Being honest, after the mayhem of Christmas and the ridiculous prices that florists have to pay for fresh flowers at auction even if they can get them delivered on time, it's not worth the hassle, they can often end up making nothing at all out of a Christmas to new year wedding owing to the price hikes at auction.

Have you considered good quality artificials? You'd be surprised what you can get and how realistic they are.

We went with dried flowers for our bouquets and button holes, they were a fraction of the cost of fresh, and looked great in our photos, and you can order them well in advance so takes the hassle out of getting them delivered on the day. Got them on etsy from a shop called 'FlowerDecoupage', might be an alternative!

We got married on NYE and also found that a lot of florists were closed from Xmas Eve through to January. As other posters mentioned, supply is the issue. We found a few florists willing to do the flowers, and all stated that the flowers would arrive at the florists before Xmas (Dec 22/23) and would be kept fresh 'til our wedding.

Everything looked lovely on the day, but I guess they didn't last very long afterwards. We didn't mind that though.

We only needed bouquets and buttonholes. The church was really nicely decorated for Christmas and we got some lanterns in Dunnes for the aisle. We got married in the West, so I don't have any Dublin-area recommendations.

Where in the country are you getting married? I can ask some of our Christmas couples where they got their flowers, or ask other florists who might know?

Thanks, that would be great. We're getting married in Dublin.

Good to hear they stayed fresh for that long, I assumed they'd start wilting after a few days.

Ok I sent a few emails there so will come back to you later, either here on in a PM based on what they say! Obviously a few are on honeymoon but they'll have some info for you anyway. We're not in the Dublin area and none of the weddings were, but it'll give you an idea of what other couples did this year anyway :)

I know my florist was open over xmas this year and I'm nearly sure she did wedding flowers for a new years eve wedding, I can pass on her details if you like she's in clonee?

Wish I could figure out how to my multi-quote on my phone! The wedding will be in Dublin so that might be a bit far. Thanks for the offer though!
