Got 510 points in the LC. Can I apply for TSM English at Trinity?

First off, hi guys. 1st post on this site. I did my LC last year and got 510 points. I'm hoping to do TSM English with either philosophy or film studies or drama studies, but the minimum points range for TSM English combined with anything is 525.
Is it possible that I'll get in regardless or is it a sure thing I'll get rejected? Should I just apply for English Studies as a single honor course (505 pts)?

As a TSM English student myself, you won't get in. The minimum points for TSM English, regardless of the other subject was 525. So say if Sociology is 480 and English is 525, you need 525 to do TSM English and Sociology. It actually also went up last year from 520 to 525. But as always the CAO is done by order of preference so stick it down anyway if that's what you want, I don't know if there was a second or third round or what the points dropped too (if they dropped at all) - I imagine one could find that easily enough online.

English is hard and I wouldn't recommend English Studies to someone if they weren't 100% sure that is what they want to do for four years, and TSM English is different to pure English - one we don't have to do a module on old English language which seems to be a pain, and we can major in whichever TSM subject we so choose.

You can of course apply. Points are based entirely on supply and demand, so if there's (for example) 60 places on a course, the top 60 applicants get the places. If the course was 525 last year, it means the person with the lowest points score (person number 60 on the hypothetical list) got 525. So there is a chance you could get an offer, if fewer people with higher points apply this year. It might not be very likely, but no-one can predict it with 100% certainty.

If you put it first on your CAO, you can still get offers on other courses if you don't get that one.
