    Hi,

Ordered a Giant TCR advance 1 which comes with these wheels. Compared with my current bike this is an upgrade in every way, frame, groupset, brakes..etc.

What I'm curious about is ppls opinion on the wheels, are they as heavy and sluggish as some say they are?

My current bike (Cube) has fulcrum 7s which i find grand though some also criticize these wheels. Considering everything else on the bike being an upgrade, should I bother upgrading the wheels to say Zondas or something or just roll with the P-R2s?

    thanks
    Jon

Googling the weight of those wheels it appears they're around 1890g with the rear wheel being 1100g which is fairly heavy.

In contrast Zondas with Shimano free hub are 1580g with the rear wheel being 925g.

Keep the Giant wheels for winter and get a set of Zondas or Fulcrum 3's for summer use.

I upgraded my Wheels on my Giant Defy to just Mavic Aksiums and they where a big improvement so i can only imagine what putting a really good set on would do. Its been discussed here before about Giant wheels not being the best. Even after i had mine rebuilt with DT Swiss spokes they continued to give me problems, yet the Aksiums haven't gave me one yet.

I got PR2s on my TCR about five years ago. I found them to be a solid dependable wheel. Two years ago I got Zondas for summer/weekend use and they seemed a much nicer wheel all round. The Zondas are lighter, prettier and seem to roll better. I kept using the PR2s for winter/commuting until they wore out - all in all the PR2's are decent but not a good as Zondas.

Thanks guys, the weight is accurate from what I Googled. I know Giant compromise on certain parts to maintain price but the wheels seem to be a fairly big compromise in this case, could be wrong. I'm trying not to convince myself to spend the money but at the same time I don't want the wheels to be poorer performing than my current fulcrum 7s. Also, I don't want to put my 5 yr old fulcrum 7s on my brand new shiny bike, they don't deserve it :) . I guess I'll take the bike on a decent spin with some hills to see how it rolls.

They are just ok wheels, need to be trued now and then, the ride is quite harsh, but they do the job. Went to Zondas here too and never looked back.

Damn it, I was hoping for a few "didn't make any difference" replies :) I can see this leading to another purchase!

I don't want to open a can of worms, but PR2s did seem to climb better than Zondas, but that could be solely because PR2s periodic truing made them stiffer and also buzzier on the road. They are now turbo training wheels for me. Did W200 on them, they are not bad, just were going out of true all the time for me.

Great deal on a Zonda wheel set and tubes and tyres.

And as everybody else says, they are great wheels.

Keep the Giant wheels for winter.
You know that it makes sense.

yeah I think I'll take them for a few spins and see how my PBs look. If i'm beating my times with similar effort (HR) then I'll hang on to them. No other real way of knowing, I don't own a power meter.

Good thinking, in my mind, otherwise how would you notice the difference :)

As for Zonda's, that was one of better purchases I ever made for the bike - still drool over them :D
