Mazda 3 & PCP finance

    Hi all,

I've been looking into trading in my wifes 2006 polo and throwing a few quid a a mazda3 this year. My original plan was to go for a used 2014 but now that realised that finding a 1.6 petrol is next to impossible (or am I wrong?) I'm considering going brand new - this is in spite of the fact that I promised myself I'd never buy a brand new car again...

The thing thats possibly swaying me on going the route of buying new is the PCP offer that most dealers have out now which makes it a bit more appealing. What Im wondering though is whether dealers would have any room to move on the price of a brand new car on that type of finance and if so how much could you push for? (Im very new to this game so forgive me). Also, is the PCP offer actually a good one? On the face of it it looks good to me but there may be people here who have run into issues and it would be good to hear about it before I go in and sell my soul the the dealer.

Also, any thoughts on the new Mazda3? I do love the 6 but its probably out of my price range and I dont need a 2.2 litre beast anyway even if it is a beautiful machine!

Below is Mazda's PCP jargon in detail:

    http://www.mazda.ie/offers/mazda-finance/

From looking at their website it looks like their PCP rate is 6.9% which is pretty high in comparison to the likes of VW and Skoda who are offering 0% PCP on certain models.

The other thing you need to watch is the GFV. Traditionally Mazdas don't hold great resale values so you would need the resale value of the car in 3 years time to be higher than the GFV set out in the PCP agreement. So the difference between the actual resale value and GFV would be your deposit for another new car in 3 years time, in order to keep monthly repayments roughly the same.

Hi, I cannot comment on the Mazda but here is two threads on PCP that might help you:
Just on the Rate, Opel are offering I believe 4.9%.

Above poster makes some good points too, check the GFV value, and you can compare to 3 year old of the same car/spec to gauge what the deal and value is.

Mazda's rates are highly uncompetitive. I priced up a 2.2 auto Mazda 6 platinum and despite it being nearly €10,000 cheaper than a BMW 4 Grand Coupe, the PCP monthly repayment was almost identical - especially when the GFV was added in (obviously the BMW would have a stronger GFV).

Once you don't have a trade in, what method you use to buy a car shouldn't have anything to do with how much of a discount you can negotiate.

Agreed. If you have no trade-in then first negotiate the best discount and then look at the best method of paying for it.

    Thanks for the replies lads.

I am planning on trading in an 06 Polo (giving my current car to the mrs) so would that have a big knock-on in terms of negotiating the price down? From the comments I would guess the answer is a yes!

Thanks for the info on the PCP, the mazda offer does look quite rubbish by comparison!

A 10 year old Polo is not going to be worth more than it's trade price to a main dealer as they will not retail it on their forecourt. They will want to sell it straight on to a smaller dealer at trade price (sold as seen). If you have the time and patience then your best bet is to sell the Polo privately. You will get a few grand for the Polo and negotiate a better price off the Mazda 3.
