Archival footage of Cathal O'Shannon taking a driving test in Cork in 1970:

Cathal O’Shannon goes to Cork to retake his driving test in this ‘Newsbeat’ report.
Reporter Cathal O’Shannon, a driver with 20 years experience, agrees to take a simulated driving test under the watchful eye of Denis Murphy. Before they set off around the streets of Cork City, O’Shannon answers some questions about the Rules of the Road in the grounds of the Car Club.
During the test, O’Shannon’s numerous faults include coasting down a hill, crossing over the lanes of traffic, driving on wrong side of road, mounting the footpath and breaking the speed limit.
This episode of ‘Newsbeat’ was first broadcast on 9 December 1970.
Interesting how things have changed and what remains the same.

Also interesting for Corkonians to see how the streets looked in 1970 :pac:

But the funniest is at 5:30, when he accidentally sprays the tester with wiper fluid...

    Very Interesting.

Just a pity that the standard of driving hasn't improved in 46 years!!
