NCT Fail on CO Emissions

0.98% for CO at high idle. (Limit is 0.3%)

Lambda was fine. CO at low idle was fine (0.15% well under the limit of 0.50%).

Car is a 94 MX5 1.8. Parked up most of the time barring the odd 5 mile return trip to work about once every couple of weeks.

What do you reckon ? Bottle of dipethane and drive the nuts off it for a couple of days ? Or is the reading too far out for that to make a difference and indicative of a CAT problem ?

Those readings would certainly suggest that the cat isn't doing its job. Given the fact that the car isn't used much it may be worth trying the fuel system treatment and Italian tune up method and put it back in for a retest.

i have a 90mile commute and i'm sure it cleans it out

...Well that worked.

Barely passed mind you. Looked like it flew it ... CO at high idle down to 0.02... but it would fly way out of range when they revved it and came back in every time so passed on average.

Not complaining though.
