Jobseekers benefit Taxable

Hi friend of mine needs advice. She works 9 months of the year (part time teacher)and is off for the other 3 months with no pay. She claims jobseekers benefit for the 3 months, but has now been informed that this payment is taxable.
Is this correct as I've seen some site say jobseekers benefit is not taxed for systematic short term workers !
Or does this boil down to what systemitic short term work involves ??

Any advice anyone (without phoning revenue again !!! )

    Thanks.

In general her JSB will be added to her 9 months of income and that is what makes it taxable,ie it must be declared to revenue.

    Absolutely taxable.

Typically the way it works is through a reduction in tax credits for the time she is working (i.e pay a bigger tax bill monthly than 'normally'). Alternatively, pay in a lump sum to Revenue, plus any interest and penalties or whatever.

While that is good information, it is a lazy response to be fair. The op no doubt has googling skills. The critical part here on this issue is the completeness and sufficiency of the information. There is a lot more to this issue than is on Revenues website, as you'll be aware that Revenue have no obligation to set out that stuff in that manner.

I think let's help out the op - so have you anything to add (bar a lazy google) and we will try help her? I dunno.... what do others think? (just a suggestion from me)
