New HE Boiler - 3/4 inch pipe

    Hi,

I am looking getting a new high efficiency boiler (18kw). I had a guy in to check out our current setup. He noted that we have 1/2 inch pipe and that a new 3/4 inch feed will be needed for the new boiler. The gas meter is at the opposite side of the house, so they'd run this new pipe along the outside of the house and in the opening also used by flue.

    Just wondering how this sounded?

Also, I asked about power flush. Mentioned a magnaclean system where each radiator is individually removed and flushed separately - anyone familiar with this?

    Cheers,
    Mhtc

As for the gas pipe size, it's correct to run 3/4 if the 1/2" isn't large enough. I wouldn't bring it in with the flue.
If they're not properly Powerflushing the system then I wouldn't waste my money on them.

    Most modern boilers require 3/4.

It would want to be very short run to be ok but if its that short then a new run should be handy

Thanks for the feedback lads. It's about a 50ft run from the meter to boiler. Is there any particular standard that needs be adhered to here? For example, should it be run underground or can it run along the exterior wall?

With regards to the power flush, I have seen fernox / kamco systems mentioned (like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDZmBXXBxR8). Would these be considered the standard way of power flushing a system? Are there any drawbacks to these machines? I've been told the pressure involved could cause leaks.

I can't see that video but a machine should be used. Preferably kamco or fernox machine. Quality chemicals too. No they do NOT cause leaks. That's a myth. It's low pressure (1.8-2 bar). It's the high velocity that moves the sludge. Cheap machines and chemicals struggle to do this properly

    Thanks Dtp1979

I'd be interested in your opinion on running the new 3/4" piping along the external wall, as opposed to underground?

Well it'd be neater underground. If overground, it'd have to be done in gunbarrell
