Laying 45 m2 of floor tiles in new kitchen extension, builder has quoted €38 per m2 to lay inclusive of grout and adhesive. Another tiler has quoted €27 just to lay no grout. Trying to work out which is the better option, how much grout and adhesive would I need to tile 45 m2?
    Thanks

Price can vary e.g. the flexi stuff (used when going onto wooden suspended floor ) is more expensive....
But to give you an idea on both ends of the scalein woodies (where your tiler WONT be buying it) evo-stik pre-mix grout/adheisive for concrete floors is 28.99 for 10L and 1L= .36m sq
So a bit less than a tenner per sqm.
This is prob most expensive grout you can buy - (its woodies and its pre-mixed)

So at that rate the quotes are similar.
However, you can get a 20kg bag in a builders providers for 25 quid...e.g.
    http://www.goodwins.ie/p-566-everbuild-714-white-rapidflex-tile-adhesive-grout-20kg.aspx

Not entirely sure how much that would cover, I reckon at the v least 8 -10 sqm.

Best thing to do is ask the second guy whats the best place to get the grout and how much it will be.

....Of course the other issue is - which of the 2 is a better tiler.... the all-in guy might be worth it.

What kind of a tiler would give a "grout-less" quote ? Unless you specifically requested this? That aside, almost €40/sqmtr sounds pretty pricey.

:) never heard of that myself - but id say OP has the tiles already...

So the quote he (or she, as the case may be :) ) got was a "turn up and do the job" quote rather than a "no grout" quote.

First quote seems to be from "the builder" possibly the guy who did the extension.

Quantity of adhesive and grout will depend on the size of the tiles. What size tiles are you fitting.
The cost of the adhesive depends on the quality and brand of the adhesive. The top brand is "bAL".Adhesive can be bought as expensive or inexpensive as you want it to be.Never use a premixed adhesive on a floor.
In my opinion which one is going to give you the best quality of workmanship, also the best warranty. This is really what it comes down to,you only get one chance at it.

Regardless of the pricing, I would prefer to get someone in who is going to do the job professionally from start to finish, including the grouting.
I find the second quote quite odd. Over the last 30 odd years I have dealt with numerous amounts of tilers and their work, from useless to absolute perfectionists, and never have they quoted for jobs with no grout.
More importantly than price I would be looking for recommendations for quality workers, a good tiler, proud of his work, will always have plenty of references available for you, which is something always worth paying for.
